I love this name for a girl. DP is coming round to it as well. DM loves it.
But I'm constantly getting bad reactions from friends - enough to have slightly put me off every time.

I appreciate that it's a bit out there but I just think it's gorgeous.

Anyone else out there agreeing with me? Or should I stay put off?

I know someone who called their daughter this (although I think the spelling was Storie). I really like it.

@Omashu I don't think you read my post correctly - I never said story isn't a name and I fully accept the 30 year old story thing that you mentioned. I simply said it isn't a common / widely accepted name, which no-one can argue with really.

I couldn't agree more with the above. Story is a name and a word, as is mark. But I think out of story and mark I know who will have a hard time over their name (and it ain't mark!)

Not going to post any more on this as I don't like to argue especially on online forums. I hope we can respectfully agree to disagree.

I have heard a little girl named Astoria being called ‘Story’ for short. I much prefer that.

@firstimemamma Story is a name though so it is the same thing! As I said earlier I know a 30 year old Story. All names were made up once upon a time. Just because Story isn’t a popular name it doesn’t mean it isn’t one, as well as a word.

Oh god, don't.
It's not a name.
People will assume you (and she) are massive chavs.
She will have to repeat her name to every new person she meets for her entire life.
People will mishear and assume it's Tori - because that is at least a recognised name.
If she's overweight she'd be the never ending story.

You don't have to call her Amelia or Eva or Grace. Pick an an unusual name. But pick a name!

I like it, although I like unusual names. Both my children have names that many a Mumsnetter would disapprove of. But I honestly couldn't care less.

Get a cat and call it Story. All children are completely unique without saddling them with not-names or made up hybrid misspelt shyte (see what I did there?!)

I had always loved Georgia, for personal reasons, until someone I knew called their daughter Jorja. FFS what a mess.

Children aren’t for ‘cool’ and unless you’re a celeb who doesn’t GIF that everyone’s judging them for the naff name, then assumed you’ll be judged too. As will the child.

No you couldn't. Mark (unlike story) is a widely accepted name that just so happens to also be a word. It's a very common name. I dated a mark once and honestly your 'mark on a shirt thing' never crossed my mind, not once.

This is a bit like when a poster wanted to name their kid icarus and she tried to defend her decision by saying 'well people name children jack and there's Jack the Ripper!'

Story? Being a standard greeting often said in an exaggerated townie accent for effect. She'll be roundly mocked.

I don’t think it’s fair to saddle a child with a random word as a name. It’s the child who will have to live with it, not you.

It's great that you like it op, but the child has to come first. The chances of teasing / bullying are just too high. Give the child a chance.
