Silver

I've liked this name for a girl since the start of my pregnancy.

I've only got a few weeks left and I really like it again now.

What's everyone's thoughts?
I don't want to get flamed for saying the word because I'm by no means judgemental or posh at all but does it come across a bit chavvy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sylvie is nice, with nn Silver.

user1493494961 · 05/11/2019 20:26

It isn't cool, it's bloody awful.

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2019 15:13

The horse called Silver was from The Lone Ranger.

MrsEricBana · 05/11/2019 15:13

It's a no from me, sorry. Sylvie gorgeous though.

saywhatwhatnow · 05/11/2019 14:58

I really like Sylvester for a boy, nn Silver. DH asked if I'd been watching cartoons when I suggested it for DS2.

I would probably put a 'normal' name on her birth certificate like Sylvia or Sylvie and a just call her Silver. It's a cool name!

SoupDragon · 05/11/2019 14:58

I don’t get the weird horse joke that a couple of PPs have made

Silver is the Lone Ranger's horse.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 05/11/2019 14:46

Also, I don’t get the weird horse joke that a couple of PPs have made. And Silva spelled like this is a ‘legit’ name anyway (by legit I mean that it has a history - I know some MN posters are phobic of anything modern). And lastly, you have kids called Scarlett, Grey, Violet, even Blue now. Is Silver really that different?

EleanorShellstrop100 · 05/11/2019 14:43

LOVE it! It’s not chavvy at all - it’s really cool!

diddlediddle · 05/11/2019 14:23

@MikeUniformMike 😂 that would really be playing the long game for the child!

What about spelling it Silva? But in general agree with pps suggesting Sylvia nn Silver/Silva

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2019 14:21

Is your surname Fox, OP?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 05/11/2019 14:00

I like it a lot. Very similar to Sylvie so why not?

I think it juuust misses being chavvy. Goldie would be chavvy. In fact I would proffer that actually Sylvie is chavvier.....

NationMcKinley · 05/11/2019 13:59

I know a little girl called Silver. I love it. Wish I was called Silver

PrincessHoneysuckle · 05/11/2019 13:56

I like Silvie

Saisong · 05/11/2019 13:52

I know a Silva and a Selva, which are both lovely names if you wanted to consider something similar

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 05/11/2019 13:50

God no.I feel like a name should actually be a name.

ChelseaCat · 05/11/2019 13:42

Not keen, sorry OP

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 05/11/2019 13:35

Not if your surname is Cross.

TheReluctantCountess · 05/11/2019 13:08

No.

pooopypants · 05/11/2019 13:03

What about platinum? Sounds far posher

DameSylvieKrin · 05/11/2019 13:03

You’re probably right that people who use the word chavvy would use it to describe this name.
I have a name that MN deems chavvy, hasn’t held me back.

BykerBykerWooooo · 05/11/2019 13:02

Neeeeeigh. Don’t do it.

Princessfaffalot · 05/11/2019 13:02

Yeah...unless you’re giving birth to a horse Silver is utterly ridiculous. You can of course call your child what you like, but they will be utterly miserable with that name.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/11/2019 13:00

It's a bit Jackie Collins, but not awful in itself.

chipsandpeas · 05/11/2019 12:58

but in 90210 silvers real name was erin, silver was her surname

MagratsDanglyCharms · 05/11/2019 12:58

How about the welsh name Arian - means Silver, (you could change to Arianne, Arianna) and you could legitimately anglicise to Silver as a nickname.... (so one official name and one 'known as' name)
