Surname and middle name are both one syllable so we want at least a two syllable name (middle name will be John).

Names I love that have been vetoed:

Raphael / Rafael nn Rafi (my absolute favorite but DW thinks it’s pretentious)

Jago (too ‘nicknamey’)

Rohan (Too ‘wet’)

Milo (Nestle milk)

Oscar (she had a fish called Oscar)

Tobias nn Toby (just doesn’t like it)

Names she likes that I don’t:

Rhodri
Ezra
Jonah
Sebastian

We can’t use a name beginning with El as it would be too matchy matchy with our DD which is a shame as we both like Elijah, Elliot and Ellis

Other names we both like but can’t use as they already belong to close friends or cousins are Arlo, Issac, Theo and Reuben

There is one name neither of us dislike (Jacob) but neither of us love it either. Please wise Mumsnetters there must be a name we haven't thought of yet??!

Silas
Otis

Jasper John makes me think of the artist Jasper Johns. I don't think Jacob is ruined by JRM, it's not like Boris.

Nico. I feel strongly that Nico is the name you need!

But if not...

Asa
Asher
Elijah (‘j’ sounds in it?)
Elias

I've seen it mentioned a few times but I really love Caleb, so I'll mention it again. Caleb John sounds good too.

Don’t let Jacob Rees-mogg ruin a lovely namr for you @Scarlett555

It’s mainstream enough that you don’t make an automatic association. Infact he is often referred to by his surname

Names like Jeremy and Boris are probably tricky these days and too loaded but not Jacob

Even the name Cameron is now being resurrected

EspressoPatronum · 05/11/2019 19:31

Ennis instead of Ellis?
Idris
Landon

itsgettingweird · 05/11/2019 19:25

Joseph John is lovely.

My ds middle name is Joseph.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/11/2019 16:56

Joseph instead? I quite like Jacob but I hate Jake. Whereas I like Joe.

Scarlett555 · 05/11/2019 16:48

Jacob would probably be a firm favourite if it wasn't for Mr Rees-Mogg. He's really put me off it.

I agree that names like Hugo, Rupert, Sebastian, Quentin are no longer 'reserved' for any class. They're for everyone!

suspended · 05/11/2019 15:18

Arlo is quite common these days. There's a few in DD's class. And 2 friends with baby arlo's.

Otto is similar but different?
