Having a girl. We would like a strong name, but still has some femininity. Preferably three syllable with a harsh consonant. Current favourites are Natasha and Jessica.

I still don't know what a hard consonant is, and whatever it means, I wouldn't have thought N or J would qualify. J is the soft counterpart to G and N is not a strong sound.

I would try to find a name that doesn't end in either an "a" or "ee" sound to try to get the soft but strong feel you seem to be going for. Reading down school registers 90%+ girls names end in one of these sounds, it gets very boring! The "a" sounds very washed out to me, and the "ee" just sounds twee.

Unfortunately that rules out a lot of names!

I also love Natasha - would have used it myself but DH had an ex with this name so couldn't!

Matilda is a great choice!

Electromagnetic · 04/11/2019 06:24

Thank you all.

I meant a hard consonant rather than harsh for those asking but lots of great ideas thank you very much.

DH is now rather taken by Matilda. He's looked it up and it means "Mighty in Battle" 😁
