WillLouie1 · 03/11/2019 12:22

I have a Will and a Louis and am expecting a girl. I am absolutely stumped with names however. I want something to go with the boys names, but something pretty and girly after two boys!
Names I like are:

Kate
Eliza
Iris
Penelope
Nell
Fearne
Lily

Please could you let me know your thoughts or throw some Similar suggestions at me! Thanks 😊

I have a Will (William) our daughter is named Arabella (Bella). I love Eliza, Penelope & Lily from your list & do not think it matters if the name is too “L” heavy. We also considered for our daughter - Penelope, Matilda, Clementine, Philippa, Jemima, Lily & Grace. Good luck!

OhMyDarling · 05/11/2019 09:58

I like Eliza from your list!

NoSauce · 05/11/2019 09:54

Blakesley? Do you mean Blakeley or however it’s spelt?

Loneranger14 · 05/11/2019 09:42

I love blakesley

Leopardprintboots · 05/11/2019 09:40

Actually ignore Lucy, I love it but prefer your suggestion of Eliza @WillLouie1

Leopardprintboots · 05/11/2019 09:39

Not Kate - far too dated and associated with children of the 70/80s
It was so overused I’m not surprised it’s now sunk without trace (same as Sarah). How about a name like Lucy that is still classic and still in use x

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 05/11/2019 09:20

I love the names Kate and Pippa but think it looks like your recreating the royal family with your sons names! 😂 I'd maybe stick with something unrelated

MissHenty · 05/11/2019 07:58

@WillLouie1 @MumOfBoys81

You might have already seen it but there’s been a thread also going on this page specifically about the name Kate/Katie

I looked at the stats and having been ubiquitous in the 1980s (a top 10 name but if spellings of Kate and Katie had been combined I think the numbers would topple Sarah off the top spot).

Nowerdays it’s all but disappeared! In 2018 the name “Katie” was given to 1 girl in 2,500 and Kate was given to 1 girl in 10,000. So it’s very rare now and even with those low numbers it’s still on a downward trajectory (Katherine and Catherine are both even lower down the 2018 name charts than Katie). So whilst a little Kate or Katie these days is statistically very likely to be the only little girl with that name in their school, they will often be told how it’s their auntie or mums friends name and those people will seem very frumpy and uncool and old to a little girl at school. For me personally, I’d avoid it. It’s not a true classic like Sophie or Emma or Emily , which have all stayed within the top 50 names so won’t have that same uncool/past it feeling.

It would be like me (a child of the 1980s), having been given a name like Sue or Susan. Again it’s a perfectly nice name but is the name of many of my mums friends and many of the dinner ladies. Sorry but growing up all those people seemed uncool and old to me 🙈

Just my thoughts....

MissHenty · 04/11/2019 10:53

@Mumofboys81 glad we’ve helped a bit. Please come back and let us know once you’ve decided! I know I sound like I have a very sad life (Reader: I do!) but I always wonder what people ended up choosing and no one tends to update us x

Ps. I forgot to say earlier that I don’t like Fearne, sorry it’s really unfeminine. I wouldn’t like it if it were my name

MumOfBoys81 · 04/11/2019 10:43

Ah Miss Henty I wish I had made a decision! I’ve added a couple to my shortlist and sent them to my partner to get his thoughts and taken on board comments about names I had. Definitely helped, so thank you!

DialANumber · 04/11/2019 10:38

I love nearly all your choices - although I think Lily has had a massive time in the sun and now feels (sadly as it is pretty) a bit overused, and I'm not feeling Fearne with your other choices at all.

I agree with pp that you may get coments about adding Kate to Will and Louis. It's a beautiful name though and you could have a nn Kitty to dilute the association. I actually think Kate Eliza or Eliza Kate goes really well together.

MissHenty · 04/11/2019 10:30

Have you made a decision @MumofBoys81 @WillLouie1 or have we helped you with a shortlist?xx

MumOfBoys81 · 04/11/2019 10:25

Thank you everyone 🙏🏻

lowlandLucky · 04/11/2019 07:34

Will, louis and Pippa

Shadow1234 · 04/11/2019 00:30

Natasha/Tasha
Rosa
Maisie/Maisy
Freya
Leila
Faye

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/11/2019 20:15

Also maybe Sian

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/11/2019 20:15

I adore Kate, a classic name, but really quite unusual these days as long as you don't nn her Katie. It's a really strong name

I also like Iris but it is definitely on the rise and I think its a name that is going to date later on

Eliza is nice too

I feel Clara might fit your style and Felicity. Lillian?

Jossina · 03/11/2019 19:13

Not Kate or Eliza. And I prefer Nell if it's a nickname for Eleanor or other names.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/11/2019 18:25

Flora
Marnie
Kitty
Daisy
Nancy
Tess

Trustmeimamidwife · 03/11/2019 18:14

I love Lily and Penelope

Bananice · 03/11/2019 18:11

*put me off

Bananice · 03/11/2019 18:11

I have a William and Nell, would would have been Louis if she was a boy. William is called Will by his friends - I’ve never been worried about their names sounding similar as I figure they’re only mentioned together rarely, and I loved both names too much to let that out me off!

bridgetreilly · 03/11/2019 17:52

Rose is more popular for middle names than first names. I think it would be a good choice as a first name with your boys.

I would avoid Nell given that you have a Will.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 03/11/2019 17:03

Love fern, iris, nell and Eliza.
Amy
Lauren
Felicity
Freya
Jessica
Jemima
Lucy
Imogen
Phillipa

Vanannabananna · 03/11/2019 17:01

DD is Kate. I love it because it isn’t heard much these days. I like all your choice though.
