With surname Clarke

We’re expecting a girl in 2020 and the surname is Clarke. I feel like we should have an individual first name but we can’t agree. I would like a name like Georgina or Theodora. Do you have any suggestions?

Aurora Clarke?

I know one of these and I find her name so hard to say. Too many ar sounds.

OMGicantbelieveeit · 02/11/2019 20:45

I would agree that because Clarke is quite a common surname it would be good to have something a little unusual so would avoid top 10 names like Emily, Sophie, Ava, Mia etc

I also agree with a PP that it works well with 3 syllable names

I prefer to Georgina to Theodora

Other options:
Davina Clarke
Eliza Clarke
Susannah Clarke
Natasha Clarke
Jemima Clarke

Clarke is really a hard name to match up.

Why? I think it's pretty bland and goes with more or less everything except Clark.

BelfastmummyL · 02/11/2019 19:13

I know a few Clarke families..one has 3 girls called Annabelle Lucille and Jessica.

Seems names with 2/3 syllables work well with a 2 syllable surname. But to be honest I think you can get away with most names with a surname like that.

I actually quite like Cece Clarke. But only as a NN maybe short for cecelia or Lucille

MissHenty · 02/11/2019 16:49

Clara Clarke is cool if you like alliteration

@popsadaisy the majority of women I know have kept their own names. Why would you change a name you love?

Oh and agree with a PP Harriet Clark sounds nice.

@awwlookatmybabyspider @popsadaisy I agree- keep your surname! Why should you have to give it up. More and more women are keeping their surnames after marriage. It already seems like a totally outdated and archaic tradition to change names and be “owned” by a male partner. I kept my surname and a couple of my friends have done the same.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/11/2019 09:05

@popsadaisy. Why do have to say good bye to it. You can keep your maiden name on marriage.
Sorry for the derail
