How many Effy/Effies do you know of?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Xmasbaby11 · 29/10/2019 23:43

One. She's 6 and it's short for Euphemia.

Wavyheaded · 29/10/2019 23:41

Only Effy from skins - I'm sure in one scene her mum calls her Elizabeth, so I guess that's what it's short for!

BackforGood · 29/10/2019 23:38

None, and I come across hundreds of pre-schoolers each year

percheron67 · 29/10/2019 23:29

cbeebies. Possibly. We were, however, asked a question and I gave my reply. I am involved in writing children's books and, to my mind, Effie begs for the second name of Elephant. If anyone thinks differently, that is entirely up to them.

Cbeebiesrehab · 29/10/2019 23:18

Rude @percheron67

percheron67 · 29/10/2019 22:17

None, thank heaven.

TildaTurnip · 29/10/2019 22:16

One aged about 19/20

rslsys · 29/10/2019 22:11

One - DGD2

lancaster · 29/10/2019 21:27

My 10 year old daughter.

westendgirlx · 29/10/2019 20:53

My five year old step granddaughter

mountainofdreams · 29/10/2019 20:48

I know one dog and one three year old called Effie! It's not short for anything in both cases.

meandmyboyz · 29/10/2019 18:49

0 yet to meet one and I work in a primary school xx

Jossina · 29/10/2019 17:37

Zero, though I have heard a few pets and children referred to as "effing" ;)

FizzyGreenWater · 29/10/2019 16:48

One, at Uni, she was Greek. Realised now I can't remember her full name!

LeeMiller · 29/10/2019 16:29

Two toddlers, one Greek, one short for Frances.

EpcotForever · 29/10/2019 12:40

Also only know the Effy from skins.

Lavenderblues · 29/10/2019 12:28

It definitely doesn't look like full name!

OverthinkingThis · 29/10/2019 12:25

None - I like it, but I'm less of a fan of the longer names that its typically used as a nn for. And to me it doesn't look like a full name on its own.

econowifey · 29/10/2019 10:53

One, Greek

HungryForApples · 29/10/2019 10:50

None. Sounds like a Turkish restaurant

marmitecheesetoast · 29/10/2019 10:41

One!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/10/2019 10:40

I know an Ephelia. She's 15.

BourbonAndTea · 29/10/2019 10:30

As @Lavenderblues said, can be short for Euphemia, meaning "well-spoken" or Eftychia, meaning "happiness". The girls I know were all Eftychia's

BourbonAndTea · 29/10/2019 10:27

I know a few, but spent a lot of my younger years living in Greece. It's a lovely name and if I'd ever had kids I'd call a daughter Effy/Efi. It's beautiful.

CanThingsChange35 · 29/10/2019 10:25

Only Effie from Dreamgirls lol
