Teacher. High school of 1000 kids. There are two.
Gorgeous name

CoffeeChocolateWine · 31/10/2019 00:03

My 5yo niece is Effie, short for Elizabeth.

mamandematribu · 30/10/2019 23:51

Effing dog/car/driver etc 😳 I can just picture the school bullies now.

mamandematribu · 30/10/2019 23:46

It does sound like something the 🐱 coughed up.
Or a swear word used by a child 'effy pencil!' Etc

thisisthetime · 30/10/2019 17:33

Just Effie from skins.

I love the name and wanted something that could be shortened to it for dd2. Didn’t like the traditional longer versions so went with Evelyn in the end. Thought Effie wasn’t close enough so we call her or Ev for short. From reading this thread I’m pleased to see it could be used although we’re kind of used to Evvy now.

Lyricallie · 30/10/2019 17:28

One mid 20s but she's french.

EugenesAxe · 30/10/2019 17:26

None but it does sound a bit like Effing.

I think there was a drippy girl in Anne of Green Gables (the TV series at least) that kept fainting, called Effie.

minesapinkgin · 30/10/2019 17:23

One about 3 years old

Garfieldsarm · 30/10/2019 14:56

I knew a Greek Ephilia who went by Effie.

Gingerkittykat · 30/10/2019 14:55

One, my aunt and her name is short for Euphemia, she is in her early 80s.

I think Effie is a cute name and nice to see it make a comeback, Euphemia is awful though.

Watercoloursky · 30/10/2019 14:47

I haven't met any and only know of one- Effie (Euphemia) Gray, who married John Ruskin and then the Pre-Raphaelite Millais - I think it's pretty :) Always had it on my own list but couldn't think of what else it might be short for (I really don't like Euphemia) - Evelyn is perfect!

Majorcollywobble · 30/10/2019 14:28

My Gran was called Evelyn - Grandad called her Effie . She was the proverbial apple cheeked kind of grandparent.

AdultFishcakes · 30/10/2019 14:26

One and she’s 18months. It’s just “Effie”.

IME it’s a really Scottish old lady name. I swear there was one in “Take The High Road”

Usually to be found with Senga, Maggie and Morag.

AdriannaP · 30/10/2019 14:19

One (she is about 30) short for Flavia 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lavenderblues · 30/10/2019 14:17

Faye is beautiful.

Effie is awful imo

Quite a few but I’m Greek.

percheron67 · 30/10/2019 08:41

cbeebies. Fair comment. I appreciate your input.

PlasticPatty · 30/10/2019 08:33

Effin' loads of 'em.

Cbeebiesrehab · 30/10/2019 08:32

@percheron67 the elephant connection hasn’t stopped people using Ellie and Nelly. Besides, I just felt the ‘thank heavens’ bit a rude reaction. Whatever though, as you said, your opinion, you are entitled to it.

Booboostwo · 30/10/2019 05:48

A few, but I am Greek.

Euphemia doesn’t mean we’ll spoken, it means good hearted, in good spirits.

miamiibiza · 30/10/2019 04:56

1 - she's 8

idontdance · 30/10/2019 04:54

None but I like it

HeronLanyon · 30/10/2019 04:51

None.
Know an Essie.

devilishlygood · 30/10/2019 03:32

I was at school with two- so in their mid-30s.
Short for Seraphina and Eleanor
