Which one seems more feminine?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Funlovingpastacat · 27/10/2019 07:52

I just thought of it as a name (no associations) its not my choice but thats not my problem. Would spell the conventional way as she'll be forever correcting it otherwise.

Confuseddotcotton · 27/10/2019 07:47

I like Harley, seems a strong name, not too cutesy, not overused.

Describing someone’s choice of name as chavvy and common as muck is just bloody rude. There seems to be a very narrow selection of names that pass as ‘acceptable’ to some on here.

romylee · 27/10/2019 07:40

I know a Harley I went to school with and she was very popular, no one ever teased her about the name so I don't think bullying would be an issue. I know a couple of younger Harley's too and they are both girls.
I agree with PP if a name isn't in the top 100 or so then it's either "chavy" , "horrible" "boys name" etc according to Mumsnet.
I think it's a cute name

RolytheRhino · 27/10/2019 07:18

What about Harlequin? Shortens nicely to both Harley and Quinn. Downsides being that it means mute clown in French and it's a firmly unisex name, which doesn't appear to be what you're looking for.

Harley is the way you spell the name. It has a nicer meaning than Harlequin but is, again, a unisex name so not particularly feminine. You might want to look elsewhere if you want a feminine name.

prettyretro · 27/10/2019 07:12

I know a "Harleen" and she's known as Harley for short x

Aprillygirl · 27/10/2019 07:02

Harleigh’s awful. Harley’s a bit better but not feminine as it’s a boys name.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 27/10/2019 06:49

If you’re set on the name, then Harley.

If you like the sound but want something that will elicit fewer negative reactions (on here at least!), what about Carly?

devilishlygood · 27/10/2019 06:13

I would assume Harley the more regular spelling. LOVE the Harley Davidson AND Harley Quinn references, so I would think your daughter, even before meeting her, would be cool as fuck!

Don’t forget that most posters here will only be able to cope with top ten samey names, and get very opinionated about it, poor loves. Couldn’t possibly venture into the ‘unknown’. Such sad pathetic little worlds they live in 😂😂😂😂😊

Tino56770 · 27/10/2019 04:32

The name is cute!

Don't let name association deter you from choosing the name.
I love the name Donatello for my son and everybody is telling me not to because it reminds them of ninja turtles. Using it anywaySmile

Don't let it hinder your choice. Smile

BertrandRussell · 27/10/2019 01:14

Neither. Give her a girl’s name.

Elllicam · 27/10/2019 01:11

I think Harley is a lot better than Harleigh.

Gingerkittykat · 27/10/2019 01:03

Harleigh will constantly be misspelled so Harley it is.

As you have seen loads of people will judge both her and you negatively if you use these names, just ignore them and do what you want to do.

I really like masculine sounding names for girls, there is no reason girls all need to be pink and frilly.

RoseMartha · 27/10/2019 00:50

Neither for a girl sorry.

only heard it as boys name

InsertFunnyUsername · 27/10/2019 00:30

Harley

ViserionTheDragon · 27/10/2019 00:27

Sorry, it's neither from me as well. Spelt both ways, I would assume that you have a DS not a DD.

Both terrible.

BellyButton85 · 27/10/2019 00:24

Neither! It should be on a banned list

Jossina · 27/10/2019 00:13

Harleigh is horrible. Harley is fine. The world needs to stop with this idea that certain names are "feminine" "masculine".

TwistedBirkenstockBlister · 27/10/2019 00:07

What about Harper instead?

Peggywoolley · 27/10/2019 00:05

Harleigh is a terrible spelling, sorry.

Harley is OK.

percheron67 · 26/10/2019 23:59

Neither. However, if you are really keen on the motorbike theme you could try Yammy (Yamaha), Suzy(Suzuki , Beamer (BMW).

MrsDeadSheeran · 26/10/2019 23:50

Outing, my name is Harley, I hate it. I've never been bullied about my name, or jokes about being a good ride Hmm or any of the above. I do constantly have people getting my name wrong, (Hayley, carley, Marley, holly, kylie- even Karen?!) and i always seem to get a double take from people when I tell them my name, when going for interviews, appointments etc people assume it will be a male that arrives. But I've had many comments about how nice and unusual my name is. Just be prepared to correct people constantly

PetraRabbit · 26/10/2019 23:24

It's a very masculine name. Harleigh is a strange spelling that doesn't really work so if you love the name it has to be Harley.

beethebee · 26/10/2019 23:24

I’d think carefully about this one OP.

The only Harley I knew was teased mercilessly in her childhood (Harley Quinn) and teens (riding and bike references) and hated her name bitterly.

She’s an adult now and goes by her middle name. She says she feels like her name ruined her childhood.
