@ohhelloo That’s a good description 👍

Ohhellooooo · 22/10/2019 15:47

@MayFyner - I'm going with a syllable and a half then Grin

MayFayner · 22/10/2019 15:42

But @ohhellooo would you say you pronounce it exactly as you would “Steve” for example? Or is there a break in the “ee” sound?

I’m in Dublin and most of the Niamhs I know... thinking about it, it’s not so much Nee Av as “Nee Uv”. Or “Nee Yuv”.

I have posted about this a few times before I think so I won’t derail the thread with any more of my Niamh pedantry 😂

I forgot to answer the OP- I like Eve too.

OverthinkingThis · 22/10/2019 15:31

Eve

But if I'm honest the fifty billion little Evie's around at the moment have taken the shine off it for me

Ohhellooooo · 22/10/2019 15:24

@MayFayne is Niamh pronounced differently in different regions of Ireland? We are from Mayo/Galway and I have only ever heard Niamh pronounced as Neeve.

Sorry I posted too soon.

It’s an Irish name, pronounced Nee Av

Neeve is an anglicisation.

How is Niamh pronounced to make it two syllables?
