Frankie for a girl?

I for a long time have loved the name Frankie as a girl's name. Some people have said if they saw that written down they'd think it was a boy?

I don't really mind it appearing as a more gender-neutral name. To me it sounds like the name of a strong independent woman, but I think I'm getting ahead of myself there Smile

What do you think of Frankie for a girl?

I'd say no.

I'm just not a fan of nicknames being used a 'proper' names.

I'd have to out Francesca on the birth certificate.

I've met 2 baby girl Frankies and think it's nice. The only male Frank I know is 70 odd x

SnowsInWater · 23/10/2019 22:52

It's DD's best friend's name, but her full name is Francesca. I love it.

OddshoesOddsocks · 23/10/2019 22:29

I have a Frankie who is a Francesca. It suits her down to the ground! Frankie is her ‘preferred name’ at school so only ever gets Francesca at home if she is v naughty!

We knew that we wanted Frankie first and toyed with various options of a ‘long name’ before deciding. I am of the opinion that a child should have a ‘proper name’ on their birth certificate but that is entirely personal choice, plenty of people don’t see the point of putting one name on the birth certificate just to call them another!

Love it!

DP wanted to call DD Francesca and I vetoed on the basis she would get called Frankie.

MrsCharlesBrandon · 22/10/2019 10:55

My friend has a DD Frankie, suits her down to the ground!

I think of it as a shortening for a longer name, give her choices and use a longer name on BC. Francine, Francesca whatever. Don't like Frankie on its own.

I really like it. Though I prefer it as a nickname for Frances or Francesca I do like it on its own too. Much more popular as a girl's name than for a boy where I live, Australia. In the top 100 I think.

Jossina · 22/10/2019 05:02

As a nickname sure.

DramaAlpaca · 22/10/2019 01:58

I absolutely hate it, and I don't like Francesca either.

Shadow1234 · 22/10/2019 01:39

Love it.

JeffreyJefferson · 22/10/2019 01:05

what about Francine

RosaRi · 22/10/2019 00:59

I love it, I think it’s gorgeous

Marcipex · 22/10/2019 00:56

I like it, but the two girls I know called this are Francesca and Frances.

HalfManHalfLabrador · 22/10/2019 00:47

Probably my least favourite girls name don’t like it for a boy either

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 22/10/2019 00:42

I love it. One of my favourite people in the world is called Frankie. It is her given name. The odd person may shorten it to Frank though?

YesNoMaybee · 22/10/2019 00:22

I'm not a massive fan of Francesca as I have a fairly long last name so I feel like it's a mouth full. I'd prefer the name just to be Frankie but wonder whether people would wrongly assume her name is Francesca and Frankie is a nickname hmmm.

I love it as a nickname for Francesca. As a name on its own, it would be an interesting choice, not to everyone's taste but I like it.
