I'm assuming MN represents a decent cross section and me and DH have different views on a name, he thinks too many people will associate it but I think the reference is old and niche enough now that it isn't a problem for most people.

It's for DC2, sec unknown, if it's a girl I've suggested (and love) Inara

Thoughts?

No associations, don't think I've ever heard it. Never heard of Firefly either. But it's a name that manages to be unusual without being outlandish and wikipedia reveals that she was indeed a goddess, though rather wonderfully obscure.

I'm a fan and think you should go for it!

RoLaren · 21/10/2019 23:45

The prostitute, sorry, 'companion' from Firefly.

Couchbettato · 21/10/2019 23:32

Reminds me of inari pockets.
Those soya pockets filled with rice.

Never heard of it but your names are pretty awful. As pp, I can imagine a car being an Inara or Morena.

GeoffreyAndBungle · 21/10/2019 21:08

I have never heard the name before, think it's lovely!

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 21/10/2019 20:42

Firefly.

codenameduchess · 21/10/2019 20:40

I really do love it! She's an awesome character, and it's such a pretty name.

DHs circle of friends are more likely to get the reference to firefly, whereas my friends are more of a mixed bag and I can only think of 2 or 3 who might know it. I've also suggested Moya and Hera but they were a hard no.

Geordies say knaa for know so my first thought is it would sound like “I knaa her” in a Geordie accent.

millimollimandi · 21/10/2019 20:22

Never heard of it

Strugglingtodomybest · 21/10/2019 20:19

I've never heard of it either.

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 21/10/2019 20:16

I like it, never heard of it or firefly tho.

VerbenaGirl · 21/10/2019 20:10

Means nothing to me and I like it a lot. Off to Google it now though!

TricklBOO · 21/10/2019 20:10

Hail the browncoats. Inara was gorram shiny.

Spied · 21/10/2019 20:09

Never heard of it.

MiraLuna · 21/10/2019 20:07

Inara was my favourite character. She was a total badass, and if I'd had a girl (2DS's and I'm certainly done!) Inara would have been very high on our list. She was entirely in control of herself. And in no way a 'space prostitute'.

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 21/10/2019 18:52

Firefly. And she was a badass, not just a companion Wink

100PercentThatBitch · 21/10/2019 18:52

I would associate with Inara George the singer

user1498572889 · 21/10/2019 18:51

It’s ok. When I saw it I thought it was a car model. Ie Vauxhall Inara.

Samosaurus · 21/10/2019 18:46

Firefly!

Whoops75 · 21/10/2019 18:44

What about Morah or Morag

Scoobygang7 · 21/10/2019 17:25

@Dinosauratemydaffodils hello fellow browncoat Grin

FriedasCarLoad · 21/10/2019 16:29

Never heard of it. Although I’m not sure I ever saw Firefly.

codenameduchess · 21/10/2019 16:24

Pretty split then! DH thinks everyone will make the firefly link and he doesn't want to name his daughter after a space prostitute. He also vetoed Morena!

I don't know how I'd feel about a remake- it's a travesty it only got 1 season but you can't replace that cast!

I thought Firefly, but I don’t think many people would.

RickOShay · 21/10/2019 15:58

I like it.
I have never heard of it.
