Quite like the sound of it, but is it too surname-y? Does Ramsay Bolton in GoT ruin this name?

Ramsey Street and Gordon Ramsey sprint to mind

Clangus00 · 21/10/2019 10:41

A good Scottish name. Go for it.

ArtichokeAardvark · 21/10/2019 10:33

My maiden name was Ramsay. It's definitely more of a surname. And furthermore, PLEASE don't do it, you are condemning him to a lifetime of 'now is that Ramsey with an EY or an AY, like the street or the chef?

Apolloanddaphne · 21/10/2019 10:29

I like it but being Scottish it doesn't seem at all unusual to me.

Tweetingmagpie · 21/10/2019 10:20

I used to know a baby Ramsey, he was lovely and it really suited him.

Singlenotsingle · 21/10/2019 10:19

Will he be a good neighbour?

slinkysaluki · 21/10/2019 10:17

Ramsay Bolton noooooooo

xanderllama · 21/10/2019 10:05

I’ve heard it before and have no problem with it, but I feel a lot of people will point out either Gordon Ramsey or Ramsey Street (or both!)
It’s your choice, don’t let us tell you Smile

diddlediddle · 21/10/2019 08:25

@isabellerossignol that's why I said "to my ear". It's just my opinion, it's not a fact!

And actually you're right, if I knew the person was Scottish I would have a different opinion. Sorry if I missed that the OP is Scottish.

BeanBag7 · 21/10/2019 07:57

Ramsey Bolton
Gordon Ramsey
Male sheep

I wouldnt use it

isabellerossignol · 21/10/2019 07:57

It's a bit horrible, sorry. But then I can't bear surname names. They always sound so cheap to my ear.

But they're traditional in Scotland and N Ireland (not sure about the rest of Ireland) . I can understand you not wanting to name your own child in this way, that's perfectly reasonable, but it's a bit rude to dismiss an entire country's tradition as 'cheap'.

SnuggyBuggy · 21/10/2019 07:56

It's unusual but not WTF unusual.

fikel · 20/10/2019 21:54

My bfs son is called Ramsey, he’s nearly 25

Shadow1234 · 20/10/2019 21:53

I really like it

MoonlightBonnet · 20/10/2019 16:41

We’ve had an actual Prime Minister named Ramsay, bizarre to think it’s a ridiculous name

Thisishowwesurvive · 20/10/2019 16:17

That's a ridiculous name, just like
Jordan, Payton. Logan, Donovan , paisley etc

walkintheparc · 20/10/2019 13:26

Neighbors or game of thrones I'm afraid OP!!

Jacksback · 20/10/2019 13:25

It’s a lovely name
I loved got but didn’t make the connection

CottonSock · 20/10/2019 13:22

Its a nice name, but my first thought is Gordon ramsey.

QM1224 · 20/10/2019 13:20

I do prefer the spelling Ramsey though, Ramsay is easily mispronounced by non-natives

My immediate thought was Ramsay Bolton from GoT but that doesn't put me off it though (even though the character was truly vile)
I like it. Mind you, I would happily use many GoT character names like Theon or Jorah.

ClashCityRocker · 20/10/2019 11:08

I think it's a familiar enough name (even as a surname) that it doesn't have the immediate 'oh, did you get that from Game of Thrones?' impact that say, Theon or Sansa would.

I know one in real life. Nicknamed Rambo.

I think it's a perfectly usable name.

EggysMom · 20/10/2019 11:08

It's a lovely name. I have rather a soft spot for it Smile
