What do you think of the girls name Shireen?

I know an absolutely lovely lady called Shireen. It's a Muslim name meaning "sweet". Go for it if you have some connection to it 🤷🏽‍♀️

EdWinchester · 18/10/2019 21:04

Awful. Awful.

In the same camp as Maureen or Doreen.

Fishcakey · 18/10/2019 21:03

I know a lovely Shireen. I think it's a nice name.

Arnoldthecat · 18/10/2019 21:01

No...

Peony99 · 18/10/2019 20:58

I love it.

Considering it (spelled Shireen) for my DD who will be half Pakistani.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 20:54

Shahin?

ViserionTheDragon · 18/10/2019 20:53

Shireen is my sister's name OP (same spelling), and we are of ME descent. She does get compliments on her name and 'Ah, like the GoT character' remarks, not in a bad way though. A lot of people ask her if she knows what it means, which PP have pointed out, means 'sweet'. I might be biased here, but I say go for it 😁.

HappyDinosaur · 18/10/2019 20:47

I've heard of Cherene, not too keen though tbh.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 18/10/2019 20:47

I know 2 people called Shireen. They’re south East Asian.

sakura06 · 18/10/2019 20:45

It would make me think of the GoT character and her horrific death sadly. It is a nice sounding name though. Maybe you can find sonething similar?

ButterflyBitch · 18/10/2019 20:41

Pretty sure it was the name of Rose Tyler’s friend on Doctor Who Tardis
I’d go with it’s a bit chav but feel free to ignore me

LookingGlassMilk · 18/10/2019 20:41

I love it, it's the name of a childhood friend. There was another girl in my year at school with the same name. They would both be in their mid 30s now. I don't consider it to be a rare or unusual name, I'm surprised at the reaction of some posters.

Shakirasma · 18/10/2019 20:41

My neighbour ( aged in her 20s) is called Shireen, close family call her Reen and Reenie. I like it.

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 18/10/2019 20:36

I knew a Sherene and Sirin when I was growing up both pronouced the same way. I think it's a lovely name but I don't like the way you've spelt it.

Noroof · 18/10/2019 20:36

Ok if you're from the Glasgow area then its slang for your fanny. So no.

InsertFunnyUsername · 18/10/2019 20:33

I do think of GOT but I like it.

DontCallMeShitley · 18/10/2019 20:31

Sounds like something from a sewing machine, sorry.

sliversloth · 18/10/2019 20:27

I've been looking for Persian names so that's partly why I've been thinking about using Shireen but it's had very negative comments so maybe not

OP posts:
IVflytrap · 18/10/2019 20:20

I know it was a name long before Game of Thrones, but the first thing I think of is the character who was murdered by her religious fanatic parents.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 20:14

Different name.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 18/10/2019 20:14

I'd think you meant charlene

daisypond · 18/10/2019 20:11

I know a Shireen - in her mid 50s. Of Persian descent.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 20:10

@meganxzjoon 😉

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 20:09

‘An’ Persian? Duh.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 20:08

It’s an Persian name (Shirin).
