What do you think of the girls name Shireen?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh no. It’s the name I’ve just given to the young woman I saw walking into our local Co-op at 3pm in her pyjamas and dressing down.

AthollPlace · 19/10/2019 00:14

Very 1960s. I don’t mind it, it’s rarely heard on a child nowadays.

PandasMum · 19/10/2019 00:10

Dislike it sorry

Noroof · 18/10/2019 23:10

Shireen Nanjiani - yer fanny. Have heard it on several occasions in different company

VenusClapTrap · 18/10/2019 23:05

It sounds dated to me because there were a few Shireens around in my youth. As a pp said, it’s in the same camp as Charmaine and Chantelle to me.

TateWorm · 18/10/2019 22:59

I'm Scottish and known a few here for some reason. Never heard of it being slang for fanny though.

LollyBeebee123 · 18/10/2019 22:35

I had two In my class at school, and I knew a girl a few years younger called it too. This was the 90’s. I’ve never met anyone since called it. I think it’s a little old fashioned, but that’s just my opinion. If you like it, that’s all that matters.

aibutohavethisusername · 18/10/2019 22:32

I’m not keen on it.

Howtotrainyourhamster · 18/10/2019 22:31

I used to work with a Shireen. I think her parents were from Pakistan. It’s a nice name, but if you had no Muslim heritage I’d think it a bit of a strange choice.

Spelled that way it reminded of the GOT character who was burned to death. Not a great choice.

bookwormsforever · 18/10/2019 22:27

I know a Shireen. She’s in her 40s. Long before GoT. Pretty name.

Marcipex · 18/10/2019 22:25

I’ve never watched GoT and I looked up Shireen :( no way

GaraMedouar · 18/10/2019 21:44

*at school

GaraMedouar · 18/10/2019 21:43

I like it - I had a friend called Shireen and school , spelt their same way, her dad was Pakistani.

SprinkleDash · 18/10/2019 21:42

I hate it!

Laquila · 18/10/2019 21:37

I prefer the Shirin spelling, although people might pronounce that slightly differently. I knew a white British Shereen growing up, FWIW.

Yika · 18/10/2019 21:31

Absolutely love this name. I have come across a couple of them, with Iranian or Indian / Pakistani connections.

user1493494961 · 18/10/2019 21:24

Awful, on a par with Marlene.

ilovetofu · 18/10/2019 21:18

I've never watched GOT

ilovetofu · 18/10/2019 21:18

@LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD the name is used in various countries: s Iran, Pakistan, Kurdistan, the Middle East and Egypt.

notthemum · 18/10/2019 21:17

Never watched GOT.
Never heard name before but I do think it's quite pretty.

namestar · 18/10/2019 21:13

Shireen Nanjiani is a Scottish newsreader- it reminds me of her!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 21:11

Not Muslim - Persian.

ilovetofu · 18/10/2019 21:08

It's NOT the same as Maureen or Doreen!!!
