I think Robbie Williams' daughter is Theodora nn Teddy. Nice name.

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 18/10/2019 17:02

Yes I'm sure in 20 years time society as we know it will be so unrecognisable woke that people named after children's toys or Peter pan Indian princesses etc wont be judged. Judgement will have ceased to be a human trait Hmm

girlandboy · 18/10/2019 15:51

Oh, and hers isn't short for anything. She was named for her father Edward.

girlandboy · 18/10/2019 15:50

I have a 55 year old cousin Teddi. She continuously has to correct other people's spelling of it because they always write it as Teddy.
But I like it.

Twelve8Ts · 18/10/2019 15:32

We’re talking about in 20 years time when this baby is looking for a job! Why reference recent stats? Scaring people into thinking their children won’t get jobs unless they have a top 10 name. Such drivel on here at times.

Anothernotherone · 18/10/2019 15:31

Regardless of the CV / professional debate (and women with cutesy names are successful against the odds despite not because of them) what of she just isn't a cutesy, fluffy, cuddly human being.

Unless it's a strong norm within your culture giving a child a name associated with an attribute invites the child to be the opposite of that attribute surely - the graceless Grace, the negative Hope, the wild and conflicted Serena, the 6 ft tall heavily built Wren or Arial, the unconventional looking slightly built Adonis or Hercules, the shy self conscious Augustus, the vegan Hunter Grin and Teddy who hates being cuddled... Cue teasing and introducing herself as Olivia when she starts secondary school...

Anothernotherone · 18/10/2019 15:22

DD1: Teddy
DD2: Dolly
DD3: Blankie? Brio-trainie?

DD1: Theodora/ Edwina Grin even Therese/is/a ...
DD3: Doris/ Dorothy/ Dorothea
DD3 ... Bethany/ Briony/ Britta/ Brittany nope, best just have 2 DC...

as with most others ... it's ok with theodora as main name but not as a stand alone name

EmpressLesbianInChair · 18/10/2019 15:07

Cute is only a good thing for a very short time, then it’s an increasingly bad thing. At least give her a full name too.

Lavenderblues · 18/10/2019 15:05

Yes, it's true that Teddy isn't any different to Poppy or Ellie, but wouldn't you want a 'proper' more formal name?

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 18/10/2019 15:05

Statistical studies have shown CVs with nicknames get worse response rates than CVs with real names. For example Vicky will get less offers than Victoria.

That's statistical fact not delusion.

But maybe in the future when we are all working for global firms no one will even need to know our names before they hire us?

Twelve8Ts · 18/10/2019 14:51

Funny on here that all children are going to be lawyers so must have a ‘proper’ name.
I’ve said it before, but we work in a multicultural country, we see names from all around the world. Companies have offices across the globe. If you think someone is going to be rejected for the name Teddy, you’re delusional. Especially in 20 years time.

Throughabushbackwards · 18/10/2019 14:50

I know a Teddy. It's short for Theodora and it really suits her.

stucknoue · 18/10/2019 14:37

Give her a proper name eg theodora. You can't put teddy on a cv ... imagine they are lawyer, a police officer, a diplomat??? All kids should be given the option of a formal name

PandasMum · 18/10/2019 14:37

Theodora is lovely for a girl & Teddy a really cute nickname - I’d hate to be given it as a full name though

lvra · 18/10/2019 14:33

We actually really liked Teddy for a girl, we liked Theodora.

I think it's a lovely name!

HeadlessGummyBears · 18/10/2019 14:21

Love it. But have to agree with previous posters and say that having Theodora on the birth certificate and then Teddy as a nickname keeps options open for the future incase your DD doesn’t want to be called Teddy as she grows up.

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 18/10/2019 14:12

Short for theodora yes. As a stand alone name no.

Think of her putting Teddy on her Cv. Or becoming doctor Teddy. No. Just no.

Crazyladee · 18/10/2019 14:05

Love it. Make her official name Theodora though.

Bourbonbiccy · 18/10/2019 13:54

I agree Theodora on both certificate and then you can use Teddy as a nickname.

She can choose when she's older.

Lavenderblues · 18/10/2019 13:41

Theodora is beautiful! Teddy is a lovely nickname for when she's little

WhatALearningCurve · 18/10/2019 13:21

There is a character in Greys Anatomy called Teddy - it's short for Theodora which is a completely acceptable name and I love the nn.

HermioneWeasley · 18/10/2019 13:15

No, far too cutesy.

Sux2buthen · 18/10/2019 13:14

I really wanted it for my daughter but I'm a take that fan and I know everyone would've thought I'd used it because of Robbie so I didn't. But anyway, it's really nice I like it

Chirpychirpy3 · 18/10/2019 13:11

Theodora is lovely. Then has the options of Thea, Teddy or Dora.
