Hi,

We are having trouble deciding, Which name for our baby boy do you like best and goes well with siblings names please?

Flynn
Rowan/Rohan

(Siblings are Isaac and Neve)

Thank you x

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@MissHenty thank you for all the info, you have been so helpful.

I do like some of your suggestions, I love short names. I really like Joel and Vincent (although not keen on Vince it may get shortened too)

I'm not Iooking for something too obscure, just don't want him to be one of several in a class when he goes to school.

Maybe we could use both names, Rohan as a middle.
Flynn Rohan?

Thank you for your suggestions definitely given me food for thought x

@Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav

Samuel Isaac is lovely. Thanks for all your suggestions,

I do really like Kieran actually and dont think its too popular in england either but dh said no 😣
Really like Luke too but have a Luke in the family already so can't use it.
Shay has also been mentioned but do know a few female shays which puts me off a little.

I think dh and i have very different taste in names! Hopefully agree on something soon as baby already here and nameless 🙈🙉 x

My sons first name is Samuel so Samuel Isaac but i don't think thats what your looking for...
I also have irish ancestery, hence Niamh, apparently if I had been a boy I would have been Sean Patrick Liam (if my dad would have got his way)
How about
kieran
Dominic
Kian
Shay
Or biblical
Matthew
Luke
Jacob
Noah

MissHenty · 17/10/2019 07:45
  • Flynn is number 242 in the charts so definitely outside top 100
MissHenty · 17/10/2019 07:44

Names outside the top 100:

Owen
Aidan
Frank
Wilfred
Cooper
Cole
Joel
Austin
Patrick
John
Evan
Jonah
Vincent
Lenny
Martin

Interestingly there were
over 1,000 RoMans born last year;
over 700 RoWans;
But only 216 Flynn’s!

So @Lisajg23 , you say you’re looking for a more unusual name that you don’t see everyday, Flynn is the obvious pick if that is a concern. Unlike Roman and Rowan, the name Flynn has also been gradually declining in popularity since 2014 so its unlikely the name will boom in popularity given its current trajectory.

Lavenderblues · 17/10/2019 07:39

I like Flynn. Or how about Quinn?

madeyemoodysmum · 17/10/2019 07:29

I love Rowan.

MissHenty · 17/10/2019 07:28

Both Roman and Rowan are pretty common given they’re both now well within the top 100. Over 700 boys named Rowan were born last year and over 1,000 Romans. It’s also not just the current chart position but the growth of the two names - both have come from nowhere to suddenly explode in popularity and are now storming up the charts year on year. On current trajectory both will be top 20 names soon.

You say you’re looking for a name preferably outside the top 100 OP, I would also suggest clicking that link @Leopardprintboots posted as there’s hundreds of names listed on there that are outside the top 100:

NationMcKinley · 17/10/2019 06:52

Love love Rowan.

My other suggestions would be:-

Reuben
Silas
Joseph
Josiah
Elias

Congratulations!

PandasMum · 17/10/2019 06:50

I love Rowan & it’s only 0.1% of babies so I wouldn’t deem it popular at all - that would have been an average of 1 child in my entire secondary school
Finn Finley & Flynn are 5x more popular combined

ForkHandlesplease · 17/10/2019 06:30

Fionn

071019DD · 17/10/2019 06:04

LOVE Flynn. Sounds great with your other DSs names too.

toomuchisneverenough · 17/10/2019 02:07

Both beautiful Smile

Derbee · 17/10/2019 01:09

Aaron? Then both boys have a double AA. Irish, Biblical, not too popular

Exitstrategist · 17/10/2019 01:03

Elliott?

miamiibiza · 17/10/2019 01:01

Flynn

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 17/10/2019 01:00

Rowan ❤️

LorelaiRoryEmily · 17/10/2019 00:55

@Lisajg23 I think Rowan is lovely, I'm not sure if you're aware but Rohan is a pretty common surname in Ireland and pronounced Differently to Rowan
It's like Row(as in row a boat)-hn with no emphasis on the a sound.
Someone else might be able to explain better🙈

My point is I'd spell it Rowan and it's a great name!

Astronica · 17/10/2019 00:12

I prefer Flynn. I also prefer the Rohan spelling over Rowan.

Leopardprintboots · 16/10/2019 23:33

@Lisajg23

Brodie is nice

But don’t pick that if your not sure.

You said you’d ideally prefer a name outside the top 100 lists. Have a look at this link - it lists the top 1,000 names (not just too 100), so you could skip the top 100 names and then start scrolling. I bet one of the names between 100 and 300 will pop out at you

How about Miles or Milo?
How about Peter, that’s another classic name like Isaac but is far less popular.
Or alternatively how about Fraser or Robin?

See what you think when you’ve clicked on the link and looked at the lists

Lisajg23 · 16/10/2019 22:32

@Leopardprintboots

Thank you, I do like Jude and seth however dh is not not keen, have also suggested Rory but he said no to that too.

Very difficult to agree. Flynn and Rowan are the only ones he said are ok x

IncrediblySadToo · 16/10/2019 22:13

I’m with DH, I like Brodie

Ruary?

Nathan (Nate)

Leopardprintboots · 16/10/2019 21:59

Ralph? Matthew?

Isaac is a lovely name. Hope you find something you love as much.

Leopardprintboots · 16/10/2019 21:56

I vote Flynn

Also dont like nickname Row plus the Roman/Rowan similarity would concern me. Roman is suddenly getting very popular in the baby groups round here, I think it’s because of all the famous Roman’s that have appeared recently: Roman Kemp the radio DJ, there’s a very famous YouTuber called Roman plus the new hit TV show “succession”, the main character is Roman in that.

Rowan is also a girl’s name to me as I have a friend with that name.

How about Seth, Jude, Eli, Ellis, Elliot or Aaron ?

Lisajg23 · 16/10/2019 21:53

@MissHenty that would be great, thank you. No, I am not Indian, It is Rowan as in type of tree or as in rowan atkinson) I just prefer the spelling Rohan.

I find it hard to find something that fits with isaac and neve. I have some Irish heritage so was thinking would like something Irish to go with neve or something biblical to go with isaac. But I think I've been through every biblical name there is and husband doesn't like any apart from Isaac! Only name he likes is Brodie, but I do not. He thinks Flynn and Rowan are ok.

Popularity wise would prefer something not in the too 100 UK names list, but I think popularity varies quite alot by region. We are in the north west.

Thanks for your help x
