Hi,

We are having trouble deciding, Which name for our baby boy do you like best and goes well with siblings names please?

Flynn

(Siblings are Isaac and Neve)

Thank you x

I really like Sonny, Brodie and River that your DH has suggested (appreciate your don’t thought).

In terms of numbers:

Brodie there were 269 babies born last year with this name - it’s number 196 on the name charts

River there were 292 babies born last year with that name - it’s number 181 in the name charts

Sonny there were 640 babies born with that name last year - it’s number 99 in the name charts

Rowan/Roman/Rohan there were over 2,000 babies with those names last year, so they are the most popular on your list and are on the increase still

You said you like Kieran but that that name had been vetoed - how about “Keir”. If your DH likes Brodie - how about “Bodhi”? Or Blake?

How about “Kit”? Or “Felix”?

I still like the suggestion of Flynn Rohan though ❤️*@Lisajg23*

If I saw a child with the first name spelt “Rohan” I would assume the child and parents were Indian or Asian but I think it’s a good middle name

@HarebellsAndHollyberries

Thank You, Ronan is nice too. And probably less popular. X

❤️ Rohan.

Or to go with Neve, maybe Fionn or Ronan?

BeesKnees4 · 17/10/2019 15:32

Rhuaridh is the correct Gaelic spelling,
roo-ray, means red haired king 🙂

BeesKnees4 · 17/10/2019 15:30

@Pinkblueberry
I only know girl Rowans no boys.

Ohwhatbliss · 17/10/2019 14:19

Yes! Ruari is awesome. You should call him that, the one I know is handsome and kind

@Leopardprintboots

He is quick to say no to all of my suggestions but all he has offered is Brodie, sonny or river.

There nice enough names but there are others I like more. We thought we would have a girl, so had agreed on a girls name but not on a boys. I think boys names are so hard! x

I really love Flynn too ❤️

Leopardprintboots · 17/10/2019 11:07

Blake?

sfe2019 · 17/10/2019 11:07

I personally love Flynn!

Ah congratulations didn’t realise he’d been born.

I’d go for Flynn Rohan

With only 200 odd babies being named Flynn last year, he will likely be only Flynn in his class. It’s a lovely outdoorsy name that isn’t obscure or strange but a bit different.

Rowan/Rohan is slightly more risky in that:

  1. he is much more likely to be in a class with another boy (or a girl!) called Rowan (not that that’s a major problem but I know people worry about boys having the same name as a girl)
  1. He could well be in a class with a couple of RoMans given how popular that name has got and continues to shoot up charts
  1. I don’t really like the nickname “Row”, sounds like Rowing your boat. Whereas Flynn won’t get shortened

Flynn Rohan. Done! ✅

Out of interest has your DH suggested any other names? It sounds as if there’s only 2 names he’s reluctantly said are “ok” but no others?!

NoSauce · 17/10/2019 10:55

Rowan. I dislike Flynn, it reminds me of phlegm.

PazRaz10 · 17/10/2019 10:37

Flynn

Lisajg23 · 17/10/2019 10:36

@Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav

He is nearly 6 weeks so running out if time now!

I wish I could attach a pic on here so you could see what you think he suits but I can't seem to find a way to attach.
I think he suits both names 🙈 x

Oh bless i didn't realize he was here already,how old is he? Just realised Ronan was meant to be on the list as well.
Congratulations!!!!❤

MissHenty · 17/10/2019 10:14

@Lisajg23 yes think I totally understand the ‘type’ of name you’re looking for; one that isn’t too popular (i.e. not top 100) but isn’t too obscure either.

Yes I like Joel too.

I think with only 216 babies born called Flynn’s last year (and the name Flynn being on a downward trajectory generally) will mean your Flynn is highly highly likely to be the only Flynn in his class.

The names RoMan, RoWan and RoHan are all on upward trajectories and if you add all the 2018 ONS stats together for those three names there were nearly 2,000 babies with those 3 names last year and there will be many more next year given how much the names have been shooting up the charts.

So yes with your criteria I’d go for Flynn Rohan - I do think that’s a lovely name ❤️

Pinkblueberry · 17/10/2019 10:13

Rowan is more a girls name now,

Is it? I know to Rowans (boys), I’ve never heard of a girl being called that.

Pinkblueberry · 17/10/2019 10:12

Tricky. They’re both great names - but I’m going to go for Rowan. Or maybe just wait until DS is born and see what suits him better.

BeesKnees4 · 17/10/2019 10:06

Rowan is more a girls name now, Flynn is lovely, goes well with your other kids.

Lisajg23 · 17/10/2019 10:05

@NationMcKinley

Thank You, Reuben is quite nice x
