It depends where you live. My goddaughter is 5 and she lives in the Home Counties. She goes to a girls’ school. In her class, there are: Edie, Evie, Eva, Ava, Isla, Isla Rose, another Isla, Bella, Belle, Lily Rose and Lily.

HopScotchHop · 03/11/2019 07:32

Margot is the nicest. Agree with previous posters that Isla is incredibly popular, but if you love it you may regret not using it.

Topseyt · 03/11/2019 01:54

Isla is lovely and would be my first choice from your list. Who gives a shit if it is popular? I never get why that apparently means you should avoid using it on here.

Cassia is nice too.

Astronica · 03/11/2019 01:49

And I agree with a pp who suggested Celia and Iona as better alternatives to Cecily and Isla.

Astronica · 03/11/2019 01:48

Cleo is the standout name on your list I think.

My 2nd choice would be Cassia.

Wheat2Harvest · 02/11/2019 23:51

I can't stand Cecily. I know a little girl called Cecily and it's always shortened to Cece, pronounced cess, like in cesspit.

Bol87 · 02/11/2019 22:50

Isla is very popular where I live.. 3 of me immediate neighbours have an Isla! I couldn’t believe it when the 3rd went for Isla as well 😄 my cousin’s daughter is also Isla and there are two in my toddler group. That said, I don’t think popularity matters. If you love a name, use it. Who cares if someone else has that name. It’s still yours. I was friends with multiple Hannah’s, Sarah’s & Laura’s growing up, it never mattered..

Cleo is my favourite on your list. Not a name I’ve heard for a while!

Treaclespongeandcustard · 02/11/2019 11:51

I love the name Isla. I only know one and she’s lovely. Go for it op Star

Cookit · 02/11/2019 11:50

I first heard of an Isla about 7 years a go and it seemed very unusual although that could be because I didn’t have kids myself so wasn’t in that scene yet. Now I know of loads and half of them are Isla Rose.

I love Cecily and Margot.

shivbo2014 · 02/11/2019 11:20

Love Cecily fave girls name. If we ever have another girl thats what we'll call her.

MissHenty · 02/11/2019 11:11

How are you getting on with your shortlist @physicsfan

VenusClapTrap · 02/11/2019 10:54

Love Margot. It was a close contender for dd.

missmouse101 · 31/10/2019 21:22

Cassia and Cleo are lovely. Margot is dreadful. Very frumpy and looks like Maggot.

Scottishgirl85 · 31/10/2019 21:17

Oh and my sister is called Margot! She hated it as a child but likes it now as an adult!

Scottishgirl85 · 31/10/2019 21:16

I have an Iona, much more unusual. Isla has been spoiled by it's popularity, but perhaps that doesn't bother you x

apples24 · 30/10/2019 17:11

They're all nice names. Isla, Cassia & Cecily stand out to me!

Buddyelf · 30/10/2019 16:57

I have an Isla. We know 1 other. I knew it was popular when I picked it but I liked it and didn’t care how popular it was. It’s such a pretty name.
I honestly would never be put off a name I truely wanted because it’s popular.

AfterSomeAdvice1234 · 30/10/2019 16:42

Like Cecily, prefer Celia or Cecilia.
How about Iona instead of Isla? It's a beautiful Scottish island. Margot is nice too.

Orangecake123 · 30/10/2019 13:35

Isla may be popular but I only know one 5 year old.

Choose the name you want OP regardless of popularity.

itchychin · 30/10/2019 13:30

There were 5 in my dds year. 3 in one class. Must also be in an Isla hotspot!

mountainofdreams · 30/10/2019 13:15

I have a four year old Isla and have met one other in that time.

MissHenty · 16/10/2019 19:32

I hear “gas”
When I hear Cassia!! Now I hear “ass” too! 🤣 sorry I really don’t like it either @Marcipex

MissHenty · 16/10/2019 19:31

@Marcipex yes I can imagine a 10year old Isla feeling the name suddenly became very popular! If they look at the ONS data the name has actually been dropping in numbers each year since 2014. It’s way less popular with younger children now. (Although obviously not a name you’re surprised to hear, but it’s much less common now)

Marcipex · 16/10/2019 19:02

I keep seeing ass in Cassia and maggot in Margot.
Isla is very popular in my area(sw)
I know this because a mother of a 10 year old Isla was bewailing it being so over used now.
Cleo is pretty.

peppinanna · 16/10/2019 12:35

Really popular where I am (south east) I think it's number 4 or something?! Margot is getting popular too I think cleo is very cute
