Opinions on baby girl name

Me and my OH are really swaying towards naming our baby girl Winter...

I realise this isn't a lot of people's cup of tea but I just think the name is so pretty and rare... also a reason is that I really liked the name Winnie however my OH felt like it wasn't substantial as her real first name hence why we then thought of Winter with nickname Winnie.

But I wanted to get a feel for what the general opinion on the name is... I feel like names like summer and April and autumn are accepted so I don't see why Winter is any different or is that just me?

TIA

I'm really not a fan of season names to be honest.
If you like Winnie, how about Winifred with Winnie for short?

MrsBertBibby · 15/10/2019 12:20

Winnie is horrid!

Jellycat00 · 15/10/2019 09:59

It's a pretty name, but more for a whimsical character in a kids book than for a real child imo. I would hate to be called Winter! Especially the thought of eventually being middle aged with that name. It suits a lithe ethereal girl, but could be a burden for a middle aged woman with a thick waste and greying hair, which she would inevitably be one day!
Sorry!!

LemonPrism · 14/10/2019 20:26

I really like it but I know my family would laugh

strawberry2017 · 14/10/2019 19:59

As long as you spell it correctly I like it. I detest the spelling Wynter though.

Mrwoofington · 14/10/2019 19:58

I wanted to call our dog winter or Wynter so I do really like it haha x

goldandpink · 14/10/2019 19:56

I like it!

I like it too OP, go for it!

user1573334 · 14/10/2019 19:51

I like it. I don't think it sounds too out there (not that I'm remotely against our there names).

maym12345 · 14/10/2019 19:47

Thank u all for your opinions it's very helpful!! :) x

daisypond · 14/10/2019 18:28

I like it. It’s not particularly out there these days either.

sue51 · 14/10/2019 18:18

Love Winter but I'm not too keen on Winnie.

VenusClapTrap · 14/10/2019 18:15

I surprise myself by liking it.

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/10/2019 17:12

I know a Winter nn Winnie. I’ve always liked it.

Naomimi · 14/10/2019 16:53

Lovely name!

FizzyGreenWater · 14/10/2019 12:44

I like it.

Winnie is great.

Shadow1234 · 14/10/2019 12:24

Love it.

albus55 · 14/10/2019 12:20

I have a Summer and 95% of the comments I get are about how lovely it is, the other 5% are generally older people making "jokes" about the time of year, having a sibling called Winter or Autumn blah blah blah. Lovely name, go for it, but be prepared for comments from people used to more traditional names!

CakeRattleandRoll · 14/10/2019 10:40

I like it and wouldn't consider it hugely 'out there'.

summedup · 14/10/2019 10:01

Love it. Our surname starts with a W and DD1 was a winter baby so I wanted to call her Winter W----

Go for it Smile

cheeseandpineapple · 14/10/2019 09:58

It’s lovely. I know a Winta, same pronunciation just different spelling.

Anoushka1986 · 14/10/2019 09:57

I like it!

OhTheRoses · 14/10/2019 09:56

Cold, miserable, dark, frosty. Not good associations. Haha @Henty.

bridgetreilly · 14/10/2019 09:53

"Now is the winter of our discontent..."

bridgetreilly · 14/10/2019 09:52

Winifred would be a much better choice, imo. I'm not a huge fan of seasons as names, but I definitely wouldn't choose Winter, the coldest, most miserable season as a name for my child.
