Samuel

I started a thread a while ago asking about all sorts of names and this wasn't on the list. (I had Barney, Otis, Zachary and Finley and also Leonard for anyone who is interested!)
We have arrived at this as a compromise name but it's actually really growing on me. What do you think of Sam to go with Rory? He would be Sammy to me as a baby (although dh wouldnt use Sammy I don't think) and then Sam or Samuel.
I think it's simple and classic and I've never met a Sam who isn't nice.

It's lovely! I really love the name Samuel! And it goes perfectly with Rory!

allthesharks · 14/10/2019 22:08

As a (very) few others have said, I really like Sam, but for some reason not Samuel. I think Sam sounds like a strong name, but Samuel doesn't.

Clownfish123 · 14/10/2019 21:54

@MissHenty yes I will be sure to update this thread Smile
We do change our minds a LOT but this one does feel right somehow.

@Clownfish123 will you come back and tell us in 18 weeks if he looks like a Samuel (I think he will do 🥰)

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 14/10/2019 19:54

Sorry meant not leo with Rory 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 14/10/2019 19:53

I remember your last thread, I actually really liked Leonard but Leo with Rory!! 😂 😂 I have a 14yr old Samuel, and he's great, never come across any negative comments about his name, yes there are a few sams around but I take that as a positive, shows what a great name it is!! Oh and my Sam is definitely not weak or wet.
Rory and Sam sound great together, I think your onto a winner 😊

PipsM · 14/10/2019 17:57

We have a Samuel, known as Sam most of the time and he is great! Met a lovely man called Sam today too, all the Sam’s I have known (as a teacher) have been great too. Have only met one barnaby and he’s lovely but known as barney.

CatteStreet · 14/10/2019 17:56

Samuel's great (and pretty popular, especially a decade or so ago - there are loads of young Sams around!), Sam's OK as a shortening, but I'm really not keen on Sammy.

Grumpymcgrumperson · 14/10/2019 17:53

I hate Samuel! I don’t know why. It reminds me of someone weak and weedy and wet. Yuck. Barnaby is gorgeous!

MissHenty · 14/10/2019 14:55

Yes I know a little Billy ! He really suits his name ❤️

NoSauce · 14/10/2019 13:11

It’s ok. A bit dated in that there aren’t many young Sams around these days. But it’s a sound and inoffensive name.

Aprillygirl · 14/10/2019 12:51

Neighbours kid is called Sam and he's a little sod. On the other hand my old dog was named Sam and he was an absolute beaut. It's a good solid, classic name that will never date unlike some of the other names on your list.

Clownfish123 · 14/10/2019 12:43

I like the nicknames Billy and Bobby too Grin

Ahh sorry I was just coming on to say I don't really like it Blush

Like Sam, but really can't get on with Samuel. Really don't like Sammy, it's up there with Bobby and Billy - bit daft sounding.

Clownfish123 · 14/10/2019 11:00

Such a positive response! Thanks all. I think we have actually decided with 18 weeks to go Smile

I adore Samuel, Sammy and Sam. Like you say, I've never met one who wasn't a nice guy/kid. It was one of my top choices for my DSs (DH wasn't so keen).

MikeUniformMike · 13/10/2019 19:32

Love it.
Samson is cool too.

Morado · 13/10/2019 19:13

It's the name of my dear brother and I've always loved it!

I prefer unusual names but as far as classic names go I love Samuel and Benjamin.

AverageMummy · 13/10/2019 19:08

I like Sam but for some reason can’t quite love Samuel (also in desperate search of a boys name) - I know someone with a Samson too!

MissHenty · 13/10/2019 19:06

@Clownfish123 I agree Barnaby can be marmite. There’s no way my DH would ‘let’ me use it- he thinks its a dogs name and said he wouldn’t like it if it were his name. I still love it for a little boy- maybe I’ll have to get a dog instead 🤣

PotteringAlong · 13/10/2019 18:43

I have a Samuel! We call him Sam / Samuel in equal measure.

BestIsWest · 13/10/2019 18:41

Lovely name. All the Sam’s I know are lovely people.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 13/10/2019 18:39

I love it, I'm thinking of this for my DC I'm expecting if it's a boy.

123Dancewithme · 13/10/2019 18:36

I love it so much I used it for my own DS!

Clownfish123 · 13/10/2019 17:49

@MissHenty I remember you on my other thread, you were very helpful Smile
I really like Barney still but I can tell DH has huge reservations on it and I think it's perhaps a bit marmite for us.
Great to hear such nice comments on Sam.
