Really struggling with girl names!

Help! Really stuck on girls names - lots I quite like, but none I love.

Top contender is Livia (I'm a classicist), but slightly concerned because I'm not Italian (and she will spend a lot of time clarifying that she's not Olivia)
Like Sophia, Cecilia, Isla and Elspeth.

But very stuck! Torn between wanting a nice classical name but nothing too out there, or a classic English name. I don't want something extremely common, but also nothing too unique. Grateful for any ideas!

Lydia is already used in our family otherwise it would be perfect - a name I love! Dreadfully hard trying to find a classical name without a terrible backstory too!

I do like Hermione, but think the HP association is overpowering...

Antigone
Penelope
Iphigenia
Iolanthe
Persis

I do love Livia but I think she’d find it immensely annoying having to be ‘not olivia’ any time she meets someone or makes phone calls.

Lydia is a lovely classic?
Cecilia is lovely - what about Cassia?

Lots of amazing ideas here - thank you! Several of you have suggested names we have already given to cats, which is amazing - clearly we are following a theme!

Agreed Livia is nice but will be a nightmare

User24689 · 08/10/2019 19:22

I love Livia, but agree she will correct people constantly which is a shame. Actually really like all your names!

Only thing I will say is that down my way (SE England) there are so many Sophia's (actually mainly Sofia's) that it gets a bit confusing. There were 4 in my daughter's preschool group (of 20 kids!) And there's now a different 2 in her reception class. I often have to clarify 'big Sofia, little Sofia, X's Sofia, Y's Sofia'... It has really surprised me!

I love the name Livia. Taught one a few years ago and the children and other staff constantly called her Olivia. It drove me mad! She was only 4 at the time, but I can imagine that now she is older it also drives her crazy.

I think Livia is a recognisably different name from Olivia - and much nicer.
Cecilia is great as well.
Others: Rosalind, Susannah, Miranda, Tabitha

Livia is lovely, my twin nieces are Alivia and Alexis.

If you like Italian names, what about Allegra? It means joyful, lively and happy. I do also think this could sounds like a nice mix of Italian/English

Allegra
Anna
Dulcie - (I think this is lovely and unusual)
Erica
Etta
Eliza
Georgia - Could have Giorgia (Italian spelling)
Pippa
Rosa
Roma
Romilly
