No.

I knew of the word quim looooong before I came on mumsnet!

But I don't think of quim when I see the name Quinn. Makes me think of Harlequin! I don't really like it though...

I only heard the work quim in that marvel film where Loki calls ScarJo a 'mewling quim'. Lots of sniggering in the cinema.

When I hear Quinn, I think of the character from Glee.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 05/10/2019 18:09

Thank you all for your opinions, I must admit I hadn't heard it used for a boy before, I saw it on a top 100 girls list and really loved it.

Had never heard of the Quim term before, am gutted but won't be using the name.

Have taught a young girl called Quinn.
Also have known of an older lad called Quinn.

Seems to be very much unisex these days.

Its not really of my choosing but I have heard worse

I had to google 'quim.' Never heard it before and certainly never heard anyone use it. Maybe regional??

Grufallosfriends · 05/10/2019 16:54

Great boys name! According to the ONS statistics it's more popular as a boys name.

Never heard of quim either Confused It's spelled and pronounced differently anyway!

MrsBungle · 05/10/2019 16:43

I like it. Until I asked about it as a name on here about 10 years ago I’d never heard the term quim either.

Dljlr · 05/10/2019 16:39

Quim is def not 'an MN thing'. Why assume so just because of your own ignorance? I was introduced to it as a teenager in Judy Blume's books.

Icantthinkofanewname87 · 05/10/2019 16:36

Also literally never heard the word quim in my life

Icantthinkofanewname87 · 05/10/2019 16:35

Love it! Only ever heard it as a girls name, had no idea it was unisex. I think it’s lovely.

NoSauce · 05/10/2019 16:12

Quim isn’t a mn thing Grin

NoSauce · 05/10/2019 16:11

Up there with the worst of names.

Jammiebammie · 05/10/2019 16:09

One of my favourite girls names tbh, love it!

Igotthemheavyboobs · 05/10/2019 16:08

I only discovered the word quim on mn a few months ago (and I'm in my 50's! - perhaps I led a sheltered life!).

I love the name Quinn, but I do prefer it for a boy.

feelingchange · 05/10/2019 15:58

I really like it for a girl. I also had to google quim, is that a regional saying?

Lavenderblues · 05/10/2019 15:26

Boys name!

Never heard of quim, seems a Mumsnet thing..Confused

Lavenderblues · 05/10/2019 15:22

Quinn is more popular as a boys name. I like it and find it strong and cool!

Don't like it for a girl as it's very unfeminine imo.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 05/10/2019 15:09

I'll go against the grain here and say I like it for a girl.

And have never heard of "quim" had to google.

RobinsParasiticEye · 05/10/2019 15:08

Looks like Quim and normally a boys name here?

MrsLoganEcholls · 05/10/2019 15:04

I've got a boy Quinn and I think it's great.

Conceptionhelp · 05/10/2019 15:03

I have just had to Google quim as I've never come across the term in my life and Quinn was my maiden name! Haha

I think quinns a good strong name but I may be biased as like I said it was my maiden name :)

Charlottejbt · 05/10/2019 15:01

You learn something new here every day! Blush I would have thought of the song The Mighty Quinn, which is great but doesn't make you want to name a girl after it. Surely the surname trend must have peaked by now?

widgetbeana · 05/10/2019 15:01

It works with an American accent, but the regional accents of England and especially Ireland (speaking as a resident of one country and born in the other) somehow make it sound odd. Not sure why.

Many American tv shows have female characters named 'Quinn' and I like it, but when I imagine some of my relatives (differing accents) saying it, it sometimes sounds wrong.

Would you consider something like Erin instead! (Has 'in' sounds and Irish connections?)

Igotthemheavyboobs · 05/10/2019 15:00

Haha really not popular then! Back to the drawing board
