Just that really..controversial as the word is I know

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DriftingLeaves · 05/10/2019 07:22

yes

BethanyGilbert · 05/10/2019 07:14

I’ve worked at schools full of people deemed to be chavs by judgemental people on here for 10 years and have never met one Blake. I don’t think it’s a popular enough name to be “chavvy”
@Rachelover60 forgive my ignorance but surely “bored of” is right? You wouldn’t say I’m bored have this book?

Charlesandfred · 05/10/2019 06:41

It's awful.

pumkinspicetime · 05/10/2019 01:06

The only Blake I know personally is the dc of a very successful American couple, both very highly educated and successful. Pretty much the opposite of Chavs.

HalfManHalfLabrador · 05/10/2019 00:59

Yes. Always reminds me of a humorous scene in Corrie many many moons ago when Raquel was picking out baby names and said she liked ‘Tiffany’ and ‘Blake’

MrsBertBibby · 05/10/2019 00:41

Like Blake Fielder-Civil? No thank you.

Nutellalovesme · 04/10/2019 23:09

What exactly is a chav?

Pricedrop · 04/10/2019 23:09

if you know the word is 'controversial', why use it?

MollyHuaCha · 04/10/2019 23:06

Awful name, sorry.

DramaAlpaca · 04/10/2019 21:56

What a nasty, judgemental thread. 'Chavvy' is a despicable, derogatory term & I hate seeing it used on here.

I like Blake, unusually for me as I'm not mad on surname names. I only like it for a boy though, it doesn't sound right on a girl.

Twelve8Ts · 04/10/2019 21:48

The only two Blake’s I know both come from very wealthy families. One boy around 33 and one girl around 6. Definitely not a ‘chavvy’ name.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 04/10/2019 21:43

I'm thinking of William Blake, I don't associate it with chavs.

Apolloanddaphne · 04/10/2019 21:37

It's a lovely name. My DD went to private school and one of the lads she was friends with was called Blake.

mumofone2818 · 04/10/2019 21:35

i love this name for or a boy or girl! Anyone i know who's child has this name are quite well off and certainly not chavs.

Winterlogs · 04/10/2019 21:28

I must be a chav for growing up in a council house.

Rachelover60 · 04/10/2019 21:26

I don't know any Blakes but remember Blake Carrington from Dynasty.
It hasn''t occurred to me that it's chavvy (some names are), does that mean he'll grow up in a household where people say, "would of", "should of" and "bored of"?

TheNumberOneSourceOfEverything · 04/10/2019 21:20

So what does the term 'chav' mean

It means Council Housed and Violent.

A lot of the time I see it used on here though it seems to just refer to someone working class or poor.

I judge people on their actions, not their names and even if someone did have a name that's popular on council estates I still wouldn't give a fuck because there's nothing wrong with living on a council estate.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/10/2019 21:12

Just makes me think of Home & Away, sorry...

Candace19 · 04/10/2019 21:10

Yes

64sNewName · 04/10/2019 21:10

It’s very “1980s American soap opera” to my ear.

dementedma · 04/10/2019 21:09

My friend 's daughter has just called her baby son Baine. Horrible

CherryPavlova · 04/10/2019 21:08

Ghastly name. Sounds like a character in a bad science fiction novel.

Winterlogs · 04/10/2019 21:05

So what does the term 'chav' mean Hmm

It's a horrible, derogatory term.

daisypond · 04/10/2019 19:53

Yes, unless you are American.
