I like the name a lot and I don't think it's common for young children anymore. Opinions please?

Dd would have been John.
Classic name.

PaquitaVariation · 05/10/2019 03:33

I have a 15 year old John, named after both his grandfathers. We’ve only met two others of similar and younger ages.

rededucator · 05/10/2019 02:24

Strong, solid name.

stiffstink · 05/10/2019 01:51

If you shout it in public lots of older chaps turn around so I’d say it’s worth it just for that 😂

MiniMum97 · 05/10/2019 01:47

Don't like John. Jonathan is nice though.

Marcipex · 05/10/2019 01:41

I would like it if people didn’t say ‘the john’. I mean we don’t, but they do in American films.
Jon(athan) is nicer imo.

Tavannach · 05/10/2019 01:21

I like it because I love Johnny as a nn.

Smurfie12 · 05/10/2019 00:59

My son aged 15 has John as his middle name.

DramaAlpaca · 05/10/2019 00:52

It's a strong classic, but not one I have ever particularly liked. However, I do like the idea of having John on the birth certificate but using the traditional diminutive Jack day to day.

I prefer Jonathan, diminutive Jon or Jonny.

Leftielefterson · 05/10/2019 00:06

DP and I are talking about another baby. If we were to have a bit we agreed we’d call him John after my late father.

Tillygetsit · 05/10/2019 00:00

Lovely. I love Mary too but have a Joseph so couldn't use it.

RuthW · 04/10/2019 21:00

I know a baby John.

june2007 · 04/10/2019 20:24

Can't go wrong with John can you?

Pearlyxdrop · 04/10/2019 20:06

@TooMuchYeast snap!!! 😂

AnxiousMcAnxiousFace · 04/10/2019 20:05

I know of a couple of Johns in our area. Both travellers. I assume as it’s more common to pass down the family first name.

LarkDescending · 04/10/2019 20:02

Lovely. I know a 16yo John and an 11yo John (Johnny). I really like it.

MikeUniformMike · 04/10/2019 19:55

Love it. I like Johnny as a nn.
It is a classic.

daisypond · 04/10/2019 19:50

It’s great.

TooMuchYeast · 04/10/2019 19:48

Love it. But then, I've got a DD called Mary (baby), so I clearly go for that sort of name!

AverageAvenger · 04/10/2019 19:38

Fabulous

user1493494961 · 04/10/2019 18:32

I prefer Jonathan shortened to Jon.

Pearlyxdrop · 04/10/2019 17:58

Gosh I just love it! It’s strong and classic and i love royal and biblical names so it’s perfect to me! It’s one of those names which I just find so refreshing even though amongst older men, it’s so common! I agree that it’s not common amongst younger people anymore. The youngest John I know is 21. Love it

Singlenotsingle · 04/10/2019 17:55

Nice name. My son's called Jon. David's a nice name too.

123Dancewithme · 04/10/2019 17:49

I love it and would use it if my DH liked it.

ShinyGiratina · 04/10/2019 17:28

I know young Jons/Jonathans, but not any young Johns. I know a good few with it as a middle name.

It's a good choice. Not strongly associated with any particular generation, so not like resurecting an out of favour name like Wayne or Darren that is between generation cycles and would sit oddly out of its age group.

One of my DCs has a long-term popular but not in fashion name and has always had a positive response.
