I love makes like Hera, Hestia, Dementria for girls. Any other strong but not overused Greek girls names?

I'm also struggling to think of middle names and whether they would sound silly if a completely different type of name e.g. Felicity, Florence

Cibeles (Spanish spelling) or Cybele. This is the Roman name for the goddess Rhea. This would be a very unusual name in the UK. I prefer the Spanish spelling as the other sounds a bit like Cybil.

Lovely thank you!

I really wanted Eris but was vetoed (went with a different Greek goddess name)

Saving it for if I ever get a cat now.

SurvivingCBeebies · 04/10/2019 15:55

I love the name Kore (Persephones name before she was abducted)

Ninkaninus · 04/10/2019 15:48

I love Athena and Artemis. If I were to do it all over again I’d choose them as my daughters’ names.

TatianaLarina · 04/10/2019 15:42

Artemis, Demeter and Phoebe.

VenusClapTrap · 04/10/2019 09:47

I love Artemis.

Veterinari · 04/10/2019 08:02

I recently read the book Circe- great story.

Apart from SumandSubstance most people will not themselves know the Greek myths behind the names nor expect you to. Many people don’t know the meanings of any names they choose

SumAndSubstance · 03/10/2019 09:29

No one else will care about the ins and outs of the characters

I would. I always presume snootily that the parents of all these little Junos have never read the Aeneid. On those grounds, I wouldn't use several of these names, but I would particularly urge you to discount Medea and Phaedra!

BoomZahramay · 03/10/2019 07:00

Artemis is amazing
Elena
Rhea
Thaïs
Persephone
Philomena
Gaia
Phoebe
Serene
Maia
Olympia
Ariadne
Ismene

Helenluvsrob · 03/10/2019 06:37

Make sure you know the stories associated with the name you choose.

Apart from that. Fab route to take OP!

ValancyRedfern · 03/10/2019 06:35

Eleni is a modern Greek version of Helen which I really like.

StCharlotte · 02/10/2019 23:33

Ariana (not Arian)

StCharlotte · 02/10/2019 23:32

Arian
Electra
Pheadra (sorry Peaches, it's a girl's name)

They're not goddesses but they're all Greek mythological characters and lovely names.

Ellmau · 02/10/2019 23:23

Helen
Athene
Cassandra
Persephone
Penelope
Calliope
Europa
Eugenia
Phoebe
Leda
Artemis
Gaia
Rhea
Hebe
Hermione
Medea
Hippolyta
Selene
Iphigenia
Andromache
Ariadne
Dionysia

I think a different kind of name for a mn is actually a good idea - makes it seem less themed.

Yesivenamechanged11 · 02/10/2019 20:57

Not goddess names but Helene (with the inflections) or Thea?

mogtheexcellent · 02/10/2019 20:23

DD has a Theano in her class at school. Nice name I thought. Not exactly a godesses name I think though.

GnomeoNameo · 02/10/2019 20:20

I don't think it was Rachel who had the power in that relationship with Jacob. She was unable to have children for many many years - who knows how many miscarriages that the Bible doesn't mention - and Jacob had already been tricked into marrying her sister Leah and seemed more than happy to sleep with the maidservants to have more offspring. She was in a rubbish situation until she had Joseph, and then died in childbirth having Benjamin. Rachel /=/ Serena Joy Waterford.

TemporaryPermanent · 02/10/2019 20:07

Well I spent a chunk of my marriage praying to be like Rachel, who let's face it was a hard faced oppressed cow who pimped out her servant as a surrogate, taking her children, and who manipulated everyone in sight starting with flashing Jacob at the well. So the characters of the goddesses aren't too bad really.

Appollonia?
Rhea. And then you're also honouring Rhea Perlman who is fabulous.

DonEmmanuelsDingleberries · 02/10/2019 19:45

Iris (although getting more popular)
Dione
Irene / Eirene
Gaia
Astraea
Althea (not a goddess, but nice name with a mythological connection)

DonEmmanuelsDingleberries · 02/10/2019 19:29

Not a goddess, but I've always liked the name Niobe.

Her story is pretty tragic though, if that bothers you?

ValancyRedfern · 02/10/2019 18:44

Not all goddesses but great Greek names:
Circe
Xanthe
Hero
Juno
Ariadne
Athena
Iphigenia (shame about the back story)
Electra
Cassandra
Phaedra

MissHenty · 02/10/2019 16:37

What’s the first name going to be?

Antonin · 02/10/2019 16:35

Most gods and goddesses had their mean streaks — they were so quixotic— nice to favourites but if you crossed them they were mean. Same for Norse gods as well as Greek & Roman

Antonin · 02/10/2019 16:33

Hera Caroline
Hera Hermione
Hera Helen
Hera Daphne
Hera Persephone
Hera Phoebe
Hera Jasmine
Hera Evangeline
Hera Natalia
Most longer names seem to flow with Hera. Depends on your surname which are best
