Do you like the name?

Do you know anyone called Boudicca?

& she could have a twin or younger brother called Nero (Roman Emperor at that time -just checked - Grin wiki!

4SimpleWords · 04/10/2019 21:09

@Tavannach yes - Frank Turner's cat is called Boudicat

BentNeckLady · 04/10/2019 21:05

I know one, she’s lovely and known as boudi.

I really like it tbh 👍🏼

imiss · 04/10/2019 21:02

I love it!

Ginnymweasley · 04/10/2019 20:39

I wouldn't personally name my child it. It's a difficult name to spell and pronounce and is quite a heavy name for a child.
I don't know anyone personally but I did meet a lady in the drs surgery once whose toddler was called Boudicca. The toddler seemed nice enough but her mum was wearing tie dye culottes and was constantly telling everyone within a 30 mile radius how clever and adorable her child was compared to every other child in the waiting room for the health clinic. She didn't appear to have a nickname as every sentence was started off with "Boudicca is...."

Purplestorm83 · 04/10/2019 20:38

I really like the historical connection but can’t get past the ‘dick’ sound in the middle, unfortunately. How about:

Thea
Freya
Athena
Guinevere
Minerva
Artemis
Sabrina
Sulis (probably only works if you’re from Bath 😉)

scrivette · 04/10/2019 20:33

I like unusual names, however as a PP said it is a rather 'magnificent' name and may be a lot for a little girl to carry off.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 04/10/2019 20:28

I hope for the sake of your unborn baby that you are a troll

Wizzbangpop · 04/10/2019 20:27

It’s a rather strong name to live up to
Fwiw I prefer Boadicea. It’s softer somehow

BoudicasBoudoir · 04/10/2019 20:24

Obviously I think it’s a magnificent name.

StCharlotte · 04/10/2019 19:08

There’s one in my area. She’s an artisanal bread maker.

Yes. She would be.

MirandaGoshawk · 04/10/2019 17:21

I love the name/connotations but would never inflict it on a child. But then I think about a very confident young woman who appeared on Pointless a while back and her first names were Truly Scrumptious, which makes Boudicca look a bit tame. but still, please don't do it. It's a nice name for a dog/cat/hamster/goldfish.

Branleuse · 04/10/2019 17:10

Gaia is a lovely name too

RuffleCrow · 04/10/2019 17:05

I love it! But then i'm often told i'm a bit odd.

I did once meet a Gaia which has a similar sort of earth-mother feel going on.

Branleuse · 04/10/2019 17:02

Lol @ Helen being an alternative to Boudicca Grin

MsTSwift · 04/10/2019 06:53

God poor kidcimagine if she’s a quiet low key sort and has to start secondary with that name. Would you like to be called that op?

Astronica · 04/10/2019 05:13

I know of a Boadicea in my town. She mostly goes by Bodi.

VenusClapTrap · 03/10/2019 22:56

I researched the history of the last house I lived in, and in the 1909 census there was a housekeeper living there called Boadicea.

I rather like it, but subtle it ain’t.

s3tut0y3r · 03/10/2019 21:11

How about Helen for a famous female from the past?

FenellaMaxwell · 03/10/2019 19:27

No. And no. Apart from the historical one. And the vicar of dibley, whose embarrassing middle name it is.

GummyGoddess · 03/10/2019 16:59

Usually I hate all names on the name board, but I do really like this one.

However dc1 has an uncommon name that I love which I didn't realise when I named him. I do always wonder if there are so few others because it's a hideous name even though I like it.

SunshineCrocodile · 03/10/2019 14:00

Are we really saying you can't use a historical name because there's a bit of gory history behind it? Pretty much every 'royal' name has a pretty lurid past, not a reason not to use it. Off the top of my head, Anne and Catherine were both beheaded, Henry was a murderous philanderer who probably died of syphilis (clearly most of my historical knowledge centres around the Tudors) - all names nobody would bat an eyelid at. If we didn't use names with some negative connotations we'd have very few left! Most people aren't going to know the historically accurate story of Boudicca, the connotation is really more 'warrior queen' than anything else.

FWIW I rather like it. Also like the nickname Bohdi or Bo.

user1573354 · 03/10/2019 13:47

I LOVE it. It was on my shortlist every time. You'd likely use a cool but tamer nickname anyway, so I don't see the issue with shouting it out in the playground.

exWifebeginsAgainat46 · 03/10/2019 13:10

i worked for a company who have a ship named Boudicca. it’s a good name for a ship. for a child? not so much.

Branleuse · 03/10/2019 13:00

if you like unusual names, its probably best to not ask for opinions on them either on mumsnet or real life. In the UK anyway. I dont think people give a shit in america etc about only using classic names
