My friend is pregnant and she told me last night that she wants to call her son Keith after her uncle.

What do you think?

If someone asked me what I thought the worst name in the world was, I’d say Keith. Each to their own though

FizzyGreenWater · 02/10/2019 12:13

It's probably coming back tbh.

Sounds ridiculous to the ears of those over 40 but that's the way the name cookie crumbles.

Without the connotations that it's an 'older' mans' name it's fine. Think Kiefer, it's not too far off it.

I think it will end up returning, Ralph certainly seems to and that's far more ridiculous to my ears!

If she likes it why not?! A lot of people will think it's dated - generally parents don't use names from their own or their parents generation...however that doesn't mean it's not a perfectly useable name. I think once people got used to the idea they'd just accept it.

Most of the Keiths I know/knew are in their 60s now. They were all very nice and I prefer it to the Reggie/Stanley/Frankie genre. Julian, Jeremy, Tim must all be due a rerun.

You asked me what I thought

AverageMummy · 02/10/2019 09:36

Unkind post

SaireyDog · 02/10/2019 08:23

It's beautiful 😜

FelicityFlutterby · 02/10/2019 08:05

I know an amazing Keith, so I'm a little biased.

I wouldn't use it on a baby, but I think it would make me smile if I met a baby Keith.

I met a toddler Richard recently and have met a few baby Peters too.

Sorry this has made me properly chuckle, will be laughing to myself all day about this.

diddlediddle · 02/10/2019 07:49

It's fine isn't it. There's nothing wrong with Keith, in terms of letters it's no different to names like Kier, Leif, Faith, etc which are all fine. It's just connotations so those can change.

BethanyGilbert · 02/10/2019 06:29

I taught a 4 year old Keith about ten years ago who presumably was a baby at one point. It didn’t suit as a child and I doubt it suits as a teenager.

My friends son goes to nursery with a toddler called Keith and when she told us, the idea of a little baby Keith had us all in stitches. I even had a little chuckle again just writing this! It’s definitely not ready for a come back!

Nobody's business but hers.

It's OK. Old fashioned, and I wouldn't rave about it, but not bad.
