Inspired by another thread. What kind of person do you think of when you hear 'Owen'?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
notacooldad · 01/10/2019 16:33

notacooldad “Owen would be whoever you shaped him to be” ... hmmm not sure it works like that. They have their own little characters, as much as we try and mould them, it doesn’t work!
🤣
Yeah I agree but dare I say many children are a product if their background to some degree. My point was you cant say who Owen is, because he could be anyone!

FurrySlipperBoots · 01/10/2019 16:06

I dunno but he's definitely Welsh! Not just of vaguely Welsh heritage either, he's got to have a heavy accent, with Welsh being his first language.

Pieceofpurplesky · 01/10/2019 15:58

MissHenty I would say they opposite - I know a lot more Owens than Rowans (I am a teacher in a high school). There are loads of Owens (at least two per year) and only one Rowan (girl)

I really like Owen Jones so I’m biased

I think the name Owen would get continually confused with the increasingly popular “Rowan” which is storming up the charts at the moment and looks set to enter top 50 and top 20 on current trajectory.

Owen is more unusual than Rowan and is outside the top 100 so people are much more likely to assume they heard Rowan rather than Owen in future years. Could get annoying

notacooldad · 01/10/2019 11:35

I think we are shaped quite a lot by our name
I used to think that about 25 years ago it through my work I came into names that have been perceived as posh or not so posh used by different groups of people in different roles. Names seem more blended across the board these days.
For example when I was younger the name Tyrone or Wayne wasnt seen a great choice if you wanted to get on in life in my area. However I have worked with senior managers with this name and they are nice intelligent people.i used to work at a youth club about 15 years ago and a kid called Chardonnay used to come in. She was academically very clever and has a successful buisness in our town.
I know longer judge ( too much!!) I do draw the line at random letters with no name attached to them . I was introduced to a child called C.J. I though his name must have ben something like Charles John but no, C.J. is his whole name!

Funny, manly, handsome, it's a lovely name!

Spied · 01/10/2019 09:01

Or is it the kind of parents who choose 'Owen' who make him who he is?
A lot of the posts see an 'Owen' in quite similar ways.
KittenMittens1 Love it too

We don't know what we're having at the moment but Owen is a strong contender for a boys name Smile

Spied · 01/10/2019 08:55

Very interesting to see people's perceptions.
I think we are shaped quite a lot by our name.

Impatient and competitive.

notacooldad · 01/10/2019 08:49

Are these threads on trend or something?
Who is Owen? Owen would be who ever you shaped him to be.
I know it's to get an idea of what connections the name has but come in!!
I know an Owen who is 46 and he is a labourer and a kick boxer and an all round nice bloke. I work with an Owen as part of our MASH team, one of the headmasters in the school I go into is Owen, one of the kids that is on my case load as CIN is Owen.
Who is Owen? Who ever you want them to be!

EmpressLesbianInChair · 01/10/2019 08:02

I immediately think of Owen Jones - smug, misogynist & lesbophobic. Sorry OP.

OneOfTheGrundys · 01/10/2019 08:01

Quiet, thoughtful, strong, awesome sense of humour, kind, loyal. Bit stubborn too!
(I know one rather well!)

funmummy48 · 01/10/2019 08:00

Honest, dependable, masculine but in touch with his feminine side.
