Don’t be too harsh please. I have a very different taste to many of you on here... for example Elizabeth, Eleanor, Genevieve etc aren’t for me at all. If it’s horrendous please tell me, without the patronising comments.
Tia

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TalullahTheTigress · 29/09/2019 10:26

Can I just also say, please not Paisley?! I imagine most people from Scotland and anyone over the age of 30 from NI would understand why Wink.

BethanyGilbert · 29/09/2019 08:27

There’s an Instagram influencer with twins Blakely and Tatum. Such ugly try hard names for girls.
Blake or Blair would be better. I love the name Blair.

intermittentfasting · 26/09/2019 15:34

Blakely is horrible. Hard to say, doesn't look like a name and autocorrect thinks it's a mistake.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 26/09/2019 14:15

Sorry OP it's awful

And hasn't a Z list "celebrity" - the one who is always pictured in the daily mail looking like a beached whale one minute and then releasing a fitness DVD the next got a son called Blakely

PrestonNotHeston · 26/09/2019 14:00

A gentle 'not keen' from me too. It's one of those names that no one will ever be confident they've got right ("is it Blake? Or Blake Lea? Or Blakeley?")

lolawasashowgirl · 26/09/2019 13:57

If you have already asked people not to be too harsh in your original question it would suggest that you know the name is going to provoke some negative reactions. There are many wonderful unusual names out there - this isn't one of them. It's highly likely to embarrass your child at some point. Why would you want that to happen?

SilverySurfer · 26/09/2019 13:52

Blakely is hideous, not to mention desperately try hard.

Rainycloudyday · 26/09/2019 13:36

Sorry but I hate it. I’m trying to be tactful but it’s the kind of name that for many people will immediately pigeon hole her as from a certain kind of class/background...wrong to be judgemental I know but ultimately people get an immediate impression from a name and that name gives a bad one. Put it this way, if she wants to be taken seriously in a professional job it will go against her. Similarly to something like Crystal...just not a classy name.

CatteStreet · 26/09/2019 13:18

Reads like something on a sign - 'Blakely Rose welcomes careful drivers'.

The thing about naming is that it's not actually about the person choosing the name. You may love it now, but will it carry your daughter through hopefully 80+ years? It's very of a certain current trend (surname-like/masculine-sounding names for girls) but may well not be durable.

If I met a child of that name, of course I would pass no comment whatsoever, but tbh I would be feeling rather sorry for her, that, with so many lovely girls' names to choose from, that was what she got.

HMArsey · 26/09/2019 13:13

If you like unusual B names, how about Biba?

TalullahTheTigress · 26/09/2019 13:03

Aaaah, sorry missed that post!

Yes i think Briar Rose is the Disney princess!

Kokeshi123 · 26/09/2019 12:42

Yes, previous posters suggested "Briar Rose" which is what I was referring to.

tisonlymeagain · 26/09/2019 12:37

Blakely sounds made up and too try hard.

Ohyesiam · 26/09/2019 12:36

No

TalullahTheTigress · 26/09/2019 11:57

Kokeshi

Are you thinking of Briar Rose maybe?

Kokeshi123 · 26/09/2019 10:52

Sleeping Beauty in the Disney film, no?

whatausername · 26/09/2019 10:42

Isn't Briar Rose the name of a book and perhaps something else as well? It certainly rings a bell. Not many people will make the book connection but I'd double check it isn't anything too weird or uncomfortable. I'm sure there was a poster who wanted to call her daughter Lolita until she was informed of the literary connection... Then again Lolita is a much more infamous book 😂

Emthebaker · 26/09/2019 08:26

I like it, agree with others that Briar Rose is another good option.

Astronica · 26/09/2019 06:16

I'm not keen on it. Rose is lovely though - and would be great as a first name. I think you can find something better without going to a style that doesn't suit you like the Eleanor, Genevieve type of name.

It’s very similar to my surname and I’m not a fan of it as a first name. If you’re really set on it what about Blake Leigh Rose?

notangelinajolie · 26/09/2019 03:41

There is a less than desirable suburb of north Manchester with a similarly spelt name.

Pol16 · 26/09/2019 03:30

It will be very hard for the child herself to pronounce and for other children to pronounce when they are young. It’s a name that she’s going to have to spell twice for people throughout her life when giving her details which will be annoying for her. I wonder whether she will wish you had called her something else when she’s older. If there are only six Blakelys in the UK this is obviously an indication that the name is not one that people particularly like. I personally don’t like it all as I prefer softer sounding names, but if you do, then follow your heart.

Kokeshi123 · 26/09/2019 00:14

Brooke, Blaise, Laine, Sian, Hayley, Sorrel, Bronwen?

Kokeshi123 · 26/09/2019 00:11

Blakely looks like a combination of "blankly" "bleakly" and "blokey".

It's really awful, OP.

Rose as a middle name is perfectly fine but not very interesting.

YourWinter · 25/09/2019 23:41

Sorry but I don't think the child would thank you for saddling her with Blakeley for her first name.
