Could you give me some examples of 'preppy' boys names? But nothing tooooo out there or uppity sounding e.g. Tarquinius or Horatio would be way too much for us!

Preppy is roughly the equivalent of posh in the US. Some of these names that would be considered chavvy here are preppy in the American South.

But perhaps there's a correlation between parents' name choice and their parenting style?

This is one of those situations that says more about our prejudices than about other people. Judging people based on what their parents called them.
