Only 3 weeks to go and we are struggling to find a name we Both love for our baby boy to be...

He likes:
Charlie
Stanley
Callum

I like:
Toby
Reuben
Dylan
Jago

We both like Arthur and Kit but both agree we don't want to use those due to their current use in popular TV shows.

We don't want a traditional Thomas, James, Joseph, Christopher name - What might we agree on!!??

When we had ds, we had already decided to call him 'Rory' in advance. But, when I was looking at him in the hospital later, I remember commenting to a nurse that he just looked like such a 'Rory' and she really agreed and said she had thought the same thing! Some babies do just look like a certain name.

So, I'd say leave it till then and hope he looks like one of the choices.

Also, names don't always sound appealing on paper, but on an actual human, they come to life a bit and suddenly have a whole new meaning.

@Flopdoodle yes for some people the name pops out when they meet baby

For others (me included) you feel no further forward as you have no idea what their personality will be like and so you feel even more confused

If I had another baby I’d decide in advance

Can you come back and let us know what you choose?

How about Otis?

Flopdoodle · 25/09/2019 09:50

Thanks all, some names for thought, still don't think we've found it but have one fingers crossed 🤞 we will be more on it when we meet him :)

How about Idris?

I really like the name Finn or Flynn

Rowan is too similar to Roman and both names will be top 10 in next few years on their current trajectory. Plus don’t like nn Row or Rom?!

How about Joshua or Eric? Otis?

I like Finn. It's nice on its own. I also love Finbar and Fionn, which are similar.

In our house, short names always end up getting lengthened, so no doubt Finn would become Finbar / Finley / Finton etc. I can't imagine it being shortened to anything... Fi? Or maybe not.

Geneva1995 · 24/09/2019 20:47

what about one from each list for the full name such a Reuben Charlie? That has a nice ring to it Grin

MissHenty · 24/09/2019 20:39

@Flopdoodle do you mind me asking what your other little ones name is? Your other little ones name has an unfair advantage as it is attached to an actual person. You will get that attachment with next name once baby is here and has his own character x

TravelsWithChild · 24/09/2019 20:33

Finn sounds like a nickname in its own right - short for Finley or Finlay, perhaps? How about:

Joshua
Ethan
Max
Oscar
Louis
Conor

SoyDora · 24/09/2019 19:57

Finn doesn’t need a nickname! The one I know is just Finn.

yearinyearout · 24/09/2019 19:52

Alex
Flynn
Sidney
Reuben
Finley
Rafe

Flopdoodle · 24/09/2019 19:50

In our area there seems to be. Lot of jake, Jacob, Leo and theo's so I think maybe a little too over used for us this year

@divgirl2 I like Finn - what do you reckon nicknames would be for a little boy called Finn?
