Which spelling do you prefer for these two names and which do you prefer in general

Catherine / Katherine / Katharine / Kathryn

Madeleine / Madelyn or Madeline with the different pronunciation for Madeline

Kathryn. Would never use Madeline, however it is spelt. I think it has unhappy connotations.
