Finley Otis Barney or Zachary

Clownfish123 · 21/09/2019 08:20

I might be posting a few threads in the next few months as we he have found out dc2 is likely to be a boy!
These are our current top 4 names but they change a lot. I like Barney but DH can't help feeling it is a bit of a joke name so it will probably get vetoed. His favourite is Otis which I like but don't love.
We both like the other two names but again neither feels perfect.
Baby will be half Irish which makes Finley quite appealing and DS1 has an Irish name. Also likely to be blonde and fair if that makes any difference!
Loads of names are ruled out as DH is fussy and we have friends who have already used names. DH doesn't like anything royal, posh or old manish (although he does like Leonard) I'm more open minded.
Thanks

Mitzicoco · 29/09/2019 11:29

Sorry just seen this has already been suggested!!!

Mitzicoco · 29/09/2019 11:28

What about Otto instead of Otis?

Clownfish123 · 28/09/2019 21:46

I think Otto is lovely if you have German roots. It seemed a slightly odd choice for us even though we like the name.
It's cool and a bit different but easy to say/pronounce etc.

Just to add, our family is of germanic origin hence many of the names we like.

Muchadobird · 28/09/2019 08:48

Jacob is a compromise name for me too as I like it but find it a bit dull (as opposed to every other boy name that I have dismissed).

I’ve just added Ludo to my B list.
I love Benjamin but is the name of my BIL so bit odd if we chose it.

Frederick is the name of our eldest. That was a compromise name originally but I really like it now.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/09/2019 07:35

Keir is a Scottish name, not Irish. Lovely name though.

Clownfish123 · 28/09/2019 07:34

@muchadonird that's interesting my DH really liked Otto too. I l'm not sure on it, but it could grow on me.
We haven't got Benedict on our list but we do have Benjamin nn Benji. I have a friend with a Benji though so would feel weird using it, and I think Ben is inevitable and a bit boring.
I've gone off Zachary and Finley now I think, I just can't seem to convince DH on Barnaby or Barney which is frustrating as it is probably my favourite. We have such different taste in names. Jacob is now on the table as it's a name we both like, total compromise for me though.

Muchadobird · 28/09/2019 06:55

I’m pregnant with another boy and we are debating a similar list.

Top is Barnaby ( I also like Barney but see it as a diminutive)
Then we also have Otto, Benedict and Fabian.

Well I say ‘we’, this is my list. DH not keen on any!

I’d go for Barney on your list. Lots of Zacharys and Finleys/Finns where we live and I’m keener on slightly less popular names.

Whoops75 · 26/09/2019 22:23

Shay-Absolutely stands alone as a name

I think it’s very cool

s3tut0y3r · 26/09/2019 21:45

Seamus?

Clownfish123 · 26/09/2019 21:34

Oh more responses Smile
I like Keir but DH not keen. We both like Oisin but I really dont want something difficult to pronounce in England. I love Tadhg but same issue.
I quite like Shay, do you think it stands alone as a name?
Not so keen on Ewan.

OP posts:
Whoops75 · 26/09/2019 01:32

Not a fan of the other suggestions

I like

Rory & Shay ( more modern Shane)
Rory & Aonghus
Rory & Ewan

PS I’m Irish

SavageBeauty73 · 26/09/2019 01:17

I have a Finley. He is also fair. It's always been spelt right.

What about Keir?

CilantroChili · 26/09/2019 01:16

FIONN not flippin Fiona lol

CilantroChili · 26/09/2019 01:15

Brody is the name of the Prez of Ireland’s dog. Nice name tho

What about Oisín? Pronounced Ushh-een)
Son of Fiona MacCool, King of the Fianna who went to live on the mythical island of Tír na n’Og (the land of The forever young- great Irish legend ☘️)

MrsRufusdog789 · 23/09/2019 21:08

Barney sounds like trouble ( rhymes with the Flintstone character )
I also know a springer spaniel named Barney and trouble is his nickname .
Otis always reminds me of the company who make lifts .
Finley is really nice . Isn't Finn McCool a famous Irish hero?

VenusClapTrap · 23/09/2019 17:44

I like Owen and Seamus of the names you’ve mentioned.

Fergus any good?

Grufallosfriends · 23/09/2019 15:10

I actually think Zak is a cartoon sound name!

Barney is cool.

cruellaisback · 23/09/2019 15:01

Otis is definitely the coolest of the four.
Zachary is OK.
Barney is a cartoon kind of a name.
Finley everyone will spell wrong. Finn is nice.
I see people have been suggesting Milo, which I think is a lovely name too.

Clownfish123 · 23/09/2019 14:35

Thanks for the suggestions. I've added Milo to the list. I actually quite like Brody! It's a bit different. I tend to associate Liam with adult Liam's I have known. I find it hard to picture on a baby. Might be worth considering though.
Arlo is a close friend's little boy, nice name though.

LolaSmiles · 23/09/2019 13:45

Clearly our DP/DH don't know a good name when they see it. Grin

Derbee · 23/09/2019 12:38

Haha, no, I LOVE Arlo. DP wouldn’t go for it though

LolaSmiles · 23/09/2019 12:31

Oh right.
I thought the question marks wa in responseto my suggestion of Arlo, as in Arlo? Really?
Grin

Derbee · 23/09/2019 12:29

Arlo!

Derbee · 23/09/2019 12:29

@LolaSmiles I think you’re confused. I was suggesting Argo to the OP
