Hiya,

Thoughts on the name Ambrose for a boy please?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Theodora is a girls’ name though because it’s the female version of Theodore..you can’t say ‘oh Joseph is a feminine name because I know a girl named Josephine’

his boss is a cross dresser & makes 500K+ per year & only goes by his female name at work (also wears a skirt)
OP, I commend you. You had us for a while. Now we see you’re just trolling us but it was fun while it lasted.

ISmellBabies · 18/09/2019 21:07

I love it.
There was a radio presenter called Ambrose Harcourt.
I don't think it needs a nickname but I suppose it'd be Am or Bro.

Lalafelpotato · 18/09/2019 21:05

@Yeahsurewhatever Same :/

Ah to follow on from my last comment... that'll be because of that show Desmond's about the hairdressers in Peckham that used to be on the telly in the 80's/90's 🤣

Yeahsurewhatever · 18/09/2019 21:05

October I know several girls called Theo/Theodore/Theodora to be fair

MrsMyreton · 18/09/2019 21:02

I love it OP.

Reminds me of a character from one of my fave books, 'My Cousin Rachel'.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 18/09/2019 21:01

Makes me think of an old black man.

Soubriquet · 18/09/2019 20:59

And for gods sake don’t start with this “they might not identify as a boy when they are older” bollocks

They may dress like a girl if they wish...but guess what, no matter how much surgery they have, biologically they are still a boy!

Lalafelpotato · 18/09/2019 20:58

@octoberlovin My partner works in I.T & his boss is a cross dresser & makes 500K+ per year & only goes by his female name at work (also wears a skirt). That's also a mostly male dominated industry but he's paid for his skill & knowledge. I appreciate what you are saying though, rather they had the option though x

Gabriel is a lot more feminine! Theodore is very feminine also but really popular now

Gabriel isn’t as feminine as Ambrose. Theodore isn’t feminine at all- I don’t know where you’re getting that from.

Ambrose literally looks like Amber and Rose mashed up.
Theodore doesn’t have anything feminine sounding in it. No ‘rose’ or ‘-a’ ending or ‘elle’ or ‘ette’. nothing feminine about it. Unlike Ambrose

Lalafelpotato · 18/09/2019 20:50

@pumkinspicetime I agree, Gabriel is a lot more feminine! Theodore is very feminine also but really popular now 🤔

Very outdated - not in a traditional way. Rice.

Soubriquet · 18/09/2019 20:48

Possibly

The male character in there is called Ambrose

He is a gay witch

octoberlovin · 18/09/2019 20:47

it is the time we are living in though? Not all males go into construction either
I didn’t say they did but you have to be prepared and think overall about what impact the name will have...construction is a male-dominated industry so it’s not unreasonable for me to have put it to you that your son may be teased for his name if he went into that sector...

And no. It’s not the time we are living in. It is a tiny tiny tiny number in society making the biggest noise and shouting the loudest to try and make us think it’s becoming the norm to switch genders and identify as god knows what. It’s still not the norm.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 18/09/2019 20:43

I'm not sure why all the rice comments, custard was my first thought!

I'm not keen for a boy, could work for a girl but Amber would be nicer.

Lalafelpotato · 18/09/2019 20:43

@octoberlovin it is the time we are living in though? Not all males go into construction either 😂

octoberlovin · 18/09/2019 20:40

just in case they don't identify as a boy later on
Oh god 😂

Lalafelpotato · 18/09/2019 20:39

@octoberismytime i quite like that it's gender neutral though, just in case they don't identify as a boy later on x

OP posts:
pumkinspicetime · 18/09/2019 20:36

It isn't any more feminine than Gabriel and the boys I know called that get no grief at all.

Yeahsurewhatever · 18/09/2019 20:35

My DP has vetoed this
But I LOVE it
It's my favourite boys name
Unusual so there won't be 8 in s class, but not so unusual that he'll spend his life repeating himself

Love love love it

pumkinspicetime · 18/09/2019 20:35

It is definitely a boys name.
St Ambrose's body is in Milan I believe.
There is church named after him close to me.

octoberismytime · 18/09/2019 20:34

It is definitely a male name but it’s not very manly is it? Can you really see your son named Ambrose going into the work place and being taken seriously? Especially in a male-dominated industry like construction. He’ll be bullied out with a name like that! Sorry to sound harsh but he’ll probably resent it

Lalafelpotato · 18/09/2019 20:31

@Soubriquet ooo no, i've not seen it? Does that mean it will get popular again :(?

RavenLG · 18/09/2019 20:28

I know of a male Ambrose. In an Australian psych rock band!

Lalafelpotato · 18/09/2019 20:26

I think it's a boys name for sure though? It comes from St.Ambrose the monk & saint. He's the patron saint of bees & beekeepers 😂 bit of random info for you all 😂🐝🍯🐝
