Oh just realised for a boy then no def not

icecreamsundae32 · 19/09/2019 09:41

Isn't it a custard or rice pudding? Amber is much nicer you could call her Amber Rose and get the same sound?

Bessieboo89 · 19/09/2019 09:16

Guys, this is clearly a joke thread. Read the OP’s updates

HamiltonBentley · 19/09/2019 08:58

I really like it, go for it OP

mamaoffourdc · 19/09/2019 08:55

Definitely a farmers name! Loved that op - I think it's a great name

Justkeeprollingalong · 19/09/2019 08:51

You can't just unilaterally decide that Ambrose, Theodore and Gabriel are unisex names! They are boys names.

Since 1880, a total of 5,459 boys have been given the name Ambrose while we have no record of any girls being named Ambrose.

Ambrosia, Theodora and Gabrielle are the female versions.
All great names.

Rtmhwales · 19/09/2019 04:31

I live in North America; it's a male name but not pronounced Amb-Rose like people listed above. The closest two I know are pronounced Am-Brosse.

It's traditional without being common, so I like it.

Derbee · 19/09/2019 03:40

Got the old advert stuck in my head now...

Ooooh arrrrr it’s Ambrosia

Balloondog · 19/09/2019 03:39

Love it! A good strong classic name. Ignore those saying it's not masculine, they just want everyone to be called Dave Hmm

And as a PP mentioned the beautiful Basiliica di Sant Ambrogio in Milan holds the saint's remains.

ViserionTheDragon · 19/09/2019 00:07

I also thought of rice. That being said, it's not so bad as a name. His peers won't know about the rice thing anyway.

LiveatCityHall · 18/09/2019 23:45

Sorry. I know you didn't ask for thoughts on Emrys but I just love it and wanted to put it out there as an alternative

LiveatCityHall · 18/09/2019 23:42

My DS is called Emrys. I love it. He loves it because its Merlin's real name 😊

Ambrose is a lovely name. As long as your last name isn't Wilson.

ParanoidGynodroid · 18/09/2019 22:38

Weird comments on here. Ambrose is not gender neutral, and Gabriel and Theodore are not feminine.

All three are male names.

Tillygetsit · 18/09/2019 22:38

I love the name Bram and Ambrose doesnt seem far off that. I like it but probably wouldnt be brave enough to use it.

SwishSwoosh · 18/09/2019 22:26

I have a Thomas Ambrose, we came very close to making it his first name though!

I love it (of course I'm biased), and it was DHs grandfathers first name.

Lalafelpotato · 18/09/2019 22:14

What are some on these comments 🤣 it's like the 1940's up in here 🤣

CherryPavlova · 18/09/2019 21:57

Gabrielle is feminine whilst Gabriel is masculine
Theodore is definitely masculine. Theodora is feminine.
Ambrose is masculine too.

Why would you be thinking a child would need a gender neutral name in case they decide to be transgender at some time in the future?
Calling a boy Bella and popping him into pink skirts to prove you’re all accepting is much more likely to create problems in the future than calling him a traditional boys name and putting him in shorts.

Lalafelpotato · 18/09/2019 21:37

Well i think we can all agree it's quite a marmite name 🤣! Thanks for the input everyone :) x

I don’t like sorry. It’s like a hybrid of two very girly names Amber and Rose.
I don’t think a 15 year old boy (which he will be one day) would thAnkyou for that name

QueenofPain · 18/09/2019 21:17

Ambrose is a lovely boys name, but not for the basic at heart. There might be a spate of them after the awesome Ambrose character in Sabrina recently, though.

Joeybee · 18/09/2019 21:12

I do immediately associate it with Ambrosia Rice Pudding tbh.
It's not a bad name though if you don't have that association, and people would forget that when they get to know the baby.
It sounds modern and fresh, I think it also sounds quite elegant too. There's no obvious nickname potential though, which for me wouldn't be a good thing.
If you like it, go for it.

Lalafelpotato · 18/09/2019 21:12

@Penelopeeeeee nope?
