We both really like the name Nico, and it works in several languages which is important to us. However, my dp thinks the baby should be called Nicholas then tell people to call him Nico... He thinks people with longer names are more multi faceted or something 🤔
ANYWAY. Nicholas and call him Nico - or just Nico?

I would go with Nicholas known as Nico.

He then has options in late life.

Nicknaming your child something hardly ever works though. It's like the woman I know who wanted to call her DD1 "Mimi" but her DH didn't want to so they settled on Amelia with Mimi as a nn.

Because Amelia was on the school register that's what everyone called her. Except the Mum who always loudly said "Mimi! Come here Mimi!" etc and everyone rolled their eyes a bit.

Just call your child what you want other people to call them.

He is!
But just put Nicholas on the bc and then call him NIco. No need to argue about it.

Nicholas. People won't know how to pronounce Nico and it'll drive him mad when he's older.

ComftyCushion · 14/09/2019 15:44

Personally I'd go Nicholas and then nn him Nico. Gives him more options as an adult to choose how he wants to be known on his cv.

HennyPennyHorror · 14/09/2019 15:44

Well I personally think Nico will be a bit weird in England. And you WILL get people pronouncing it wrongly.

I assume you want him to be called "Neeco" ? Some people will say it to rhyme with "Flick-o"

iyswim?

I don't like Nicholas. I DO like Nico though it does sound European and people will assume he's not from the UK.

Nico in its own right is wonderful, IMO.

TeenPlusTwenties · 14/09/2019 15:43

Nicholas - more options in later life.

IckleBear · 14/09/2019 15:42

Nico!
