What do you think? Albie would be full name rather than Albert which I'm not so keen on

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
diddlediddle · 14/09/2019 20:48

Albus is fine as the long version OP if you prefer it to Albert go for it

Grufallosfriends · 14/09/2019 20:37

Albs is really ugly imo Shock

gwilt · 14/09/2019 17:10

Albie reminds me of Caben-Albi, the son of Stephanie Davis.

I make no comment on whether this is a good or bad thing.

Grasspigeons · 14/09/2019 17:01

He will be Al as a teenager id have thought , or albs. People shorten whatever you start with. Unlesx you pick a really short name, then they lenghten it.

PuffHuffle5 · 14/09/2019 16:45

I agree with it being too cutesy - cute on a baby, but probably a bit silly for a teenage boy. Worth considering when thinking about names - they are life long.

gettofuckthrees · 14/09/2019 16:40

@WeShouldOpenABar I came on to say the exact same thing.

Gahhh.. off for a listen to the hipphopopottumus

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 14/09/2019 16:34

Really don’t like it. Sorry OP.

Grufallosfriends · 14/09/2019 15:58

Imagine meeting an adult Albie of imagine be your husband as an Albie?!

It sounds cute on a little toddler but lacks strength for a grown man imo.

RoseMartha · 14/09/2019 15:45

It is ok for a baby and little boy not so much a grown man's name.

keepingbees · 14/09/2019 15:42

I know an irish boy with the Irish spelling Ailbe. I really like it but Albie in general seems to be getting quite popular

IckleBear · 14/09/2019 15:28

Too cutesy

Mamalexi343 · 14/09/2019 15:26

I prefer Albert to Albie however if you like it why not? We loved the name Agatha, Aggie for short, everyone else hated it but now they can't imagine DD being called anything else so if you think it's the right name then that's all you need.

And tbh when he's born you may think no that's not the name for him, our DS has a completely different name now to what we decided on when I was pregnant.

Grufallosfriends · 14/09/2019 15:01

Alby and Albie are equally awful imo.

cushioncovers · 14/09/2019 15:01

It sounds like a short nickname from a longer 'proper' name. Im not keen.

kenandbarbie · 14/09/2019 15:00

I prefer Alby.

Mysteriously · 14/09/2019 14:56

It's not that I don't like Albert but I'm not sure if I like it enough to use it, it's starting to grow on me. Albie can be spelt Alby which I think looks a bit less cutesy but I'm not sure

OP posts:
kenandbarbie · 14/09/2019 14:52

Yeah too cutsie for me too. Alberts nice though.

Grufallosfriends · 14/09/2019 14:37

Just really can't get on with the idea of calling babies, boys especially, names that end in ie. It's so twee and babyish. These babies will grow into men!

That summarises my view too. Way too cutesy and babyish.

There are so many great boys names out there!

Lavenderblues · 14/09/2019 14:23

Your son won't thank you once he starts secondary school. Please give him a more solid name.

Lavenderblues · 14/09/2019 14:21

I hate cutesy babyish names like Alfie, Archie, Albie, Bertie, Teddie etc. They sound so cute and twee. Suitable for a baby's nickname or a soft toy.

They also don't travel well into other languages.

PreschoolYes · 14/09/2019 14:14

Not for me, I don't like the trend for Albie, Archie, Alfie.

Albie especially sounds cutesy and made up, even though I know kids with the name. I'd try and find a full name for the birth certificate and use Albie day to day.

Bouffalant · 14/09/2019 14:12

I absolutely hate names like this. Albie, Archie, Alfie, they set my teeth on edge for some reason.

There are so many of these cutesy twee abbreviations going around right now. If you must do it can't you give them the full name so the child has the choice in future to use the real name?

My own name is a nickname of a traditional name, good lord I wish they'd given me the full name. I hate it.

MikeUniformMike · 14/09/2019 14:09

Don't like it.

Sunshineys · 14/09/2019 14:07

If you don't like Albert, I wouldn't use Albie.

WLmum · 14/09/2019 13:05

I love it, but would go with Albert as full name and use Albie as nn. Then as he grows, he can choose to be more or less 'cutesie' or formal by being Albert/Al/Bert if he wants. Fwiw, I wouldn't have any concerns about Albie as he grows - I can imagine it as a uni name, and a work name. All good by me.
I'm someone that steers away from the most common names, and my heart sinks when I hear people calling their babies perfectly nice, but bland (IMO) names
