I'm currently 34+1 with a little girl. I love the name Megan, but I prefer it pronounced in the American way. So to make it clear, I'm planning to spell it Maygan. Or is that too weird??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Nonnymum · 13/09/2019 17:56

I think you should spell it correctly.

MissHenty · 13/09/2019 17:54

I laughed when I read it. Sorry

Good username @UpTheLaganInABubble!

If you want the Maygan pronunciation then I would spell it Maegan

Much too weird OP. Spoils a lovely name.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/09/2019 16:56

You pronounce egg and ay the same way?

Obviously I meant MayG with the G on the end.

But yeah, the “e” in egg and “ay” are pronounced the same if you want to do it without the “g”s.

Warpdrive · 13/09/2019 16:56

My brain does something weird and when I see Maygan I read Gayman.... sorry but Maegan is prettier I think.

HeadintheiClouds · 13/09/2019 16:55

God, how rude, ShowofHands

ShowOfHands · 13/09/2019 16:50

You pronounce egg and ay the same way?

What the fuck accent do you have?

NoSauce · 13/09/2019 16:50

Maygen? Never heard of that one. I’ve heard it pronounced Meegan.

Best bet to stick to Megan Wink

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/09/2019 16:48

M-egg and M-ay are not the same sound.

Yes they are, in my accent. Yours isn’t the only right accent you know! Grin

highheelsandbobblehats · 13/09/2019 16:46

No it's not! M-egg and M-ay are not the same sound.

LollyBeebee123 · 13/09/2019 16:46

I don’t like this spelling, it’s odd! I like forkhandle’s spelling Maegan.

HeadintheiClouds · 13/09/2019 16:43

Megan is pronounced Megan in America. There’s no such name as Maygan, and it sounds ridiculous anyway.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/09/2019 16:42

That’s the same sound! Grin

AverageMummy · 13/09/2019 16:35

@JoxerGoesToStuttgart no she wants it pronounced ‘may’ not ‘meg’

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2019 16:34

I don’t think I know anyone who would pronounce it May

Meh or Me only

AverageMummy · 13/09/2019 16:34

Please don’t do this to your child - they might want to be taken seriously one day

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/09/2019 16:32

So OP wants Megan, pronounced like, Megan, and she thinks she needs to change the spelling in order to get it pronounced that way? Fixing a problem that doesn’t exist.

AudacityOfHope · 13/09/2019 16:31

I work with a Maylin, which I think comes from her dad's Malaysian heritage.

Maygan is quite clunky and people might instinctively pronounce it MayGAN. Which sounds like a car. Renault Maygan.
