Baby name idea too much?

Mammy99 · 12/09/2019 23:27

So I always wanted the name Joshua if I had a son, DH and I decided on naming Ds1 a family name which made sense for our firstborn. Friends then called their son Joshua a few weeks later.im now pregnant again and can’t seem to get over the name...DH had decided on Josiah instead as a compromise which I do like just not as much as Joshua. Would having Joshua for a middle name just be far too much?
I kind of like Josiah Joshua but don’t know if I’ve just talked myself into it because I don’t want to lose a name I’ve loved. Opinions?

FYI you're in the Bristol post www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/mum-asks-whether-baby-name-3317800

I never thought I'd be shocked at the level of non-story a 'news'paper would sink to, but here we are.

Mintypea5 · 14/09/2019 15:28

I'd stick with Joshua

I think you should stick with the name you clearly love

In 5 years time you might not even be in regular contact with these friends and even if you are who cares...

Use it. It won’t be an issue. It’s a lovely name. Tell your friends they have great taste as that has been your ideal name for a while now

Antonin · 13/09/2019 13:05

We’ll, I guess it takes all sorts. Personally I think Josiah Joshua is quite distinctive and has a great ring to it.
No reason why you shouldn’t use Joshua, of course but ask your friend if it’s ok with her. She’s bound to say it is but will appreciate your asking.

MikeUniformMike · 13/09/2019 11:15

Just call him Joshua.

Hecateh · 13/09/2019 10:53

In my son's friendship group there is 'big Matt', little Matt (best friends) ginger Matt and Matty Matt.

It's fine to call him Joshua, if they spend a lot of time together they will soon work out different names. If they don't then it doesn't matter anyway

Mammy99 · 13/09/2019 10:21

Yes Jonah is also nice but a cousin just called their baby that! Probably still lower down my list than Josiah

PreschoolYes · 13/09/2019 10:06

What about Jonah?

Morado · 13/09/2019 10:02

Yes, it's too much. And Josiah is a nicer name anyway!

Enko · 13/09/2019 09:15

I prefer Josiah by a far. Just never cared for Joshua

ALittleBitAlexis · 13/09/2019 08:37

I love the name Joshua.

I'm not keen on Josiah personally, it denotes piousness to me, but that might be my own hangup!

Both names sound nice though, so it's personal preference, really.

4storytoy · 13/09/2019 08:21

Joshua by a country mile! Really not keen on Josiah at all and I normally like more unusual names, sorry.

Mammy99 · 13/09/2019 08:16

First time I’ve posted on here and wow didn’t expect so many responses so quickly-thank you!
Out of interest what name does everyone prefer out of the two?

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 13/09/2019 08:01

I would just use Joshua!

Ellmau · 13/09/2019 07:50

Jocelyn?

toadabode · 13/09/2019 07:49

Josiah Joshua sounds terrible. Go with Joshua as originally planned. It honestly doesn't matter that your friends have called their son the same in the grand scheme of life. Joshua is a lovely name. Josiah Joshua most certainly isn't!

CassianAndor · 13/09/2019 07:46

I don’t mind it and quite like Josiah but I’d just call him what you want, ie Joshua.

SallyWD · 13/09/2019 07:46

Just go with Joshua. If I was your friend I wouldn't mind at all.

thebakerwithboobs · 13/09/2019 07:46

Sorry, that last bit sounded like I was being nasty! I'm just saying we rarely use middle names in every day life and the best ones are the ones where people go 😱 then 😂 Josiah is not in that category!

thebakerwithboobs · 13/09/2019 07:45

Either just call him Joshua or put another middle name in. Joshua Samuel Josiah or whatever. Just those two is a bit much...although surely the primary function of middle names is acute embarrassment anyway so 🤷‍♀️

GlasshouseStoneThrower · 13/09/2019 07:44

I don't think they're great together, but I'm another who thinks it would be fine for you to call your son Joshua.

Yika · 13/09/2019 07:42

Just call him Joshua. (Lovely name.) Who cares if your friends picked the same? Josiah is also beautiful but the two together is too much.

ifigoup · 13/09/2019 01:01

Would you want to call him Josh mostly? I know a couple of Jonathans who are called Josh for short - you could use that instead of Joshua and still call him Josh for day-to-day.

newreality1 · 13/09/2019 00:32

Go with Joshua for first name. You obviously love it and it is a lovely name.

Herefortheduration · 13/09/2019 00:12

He'll get JJ, which is ok but you want more of the Jos/Josh sound. Just go with Joshua, it's popular enough to get away with it.
