Help, we can’t agree on a name for our baby girl

So DH and I can’t agree in a name for our baby girl. Out of the 46 names I like he doesn’t really like any of them. I like old fashioned but sweet names, he’s given me no names at all to go on.

In need of suggestions please... xxx

Don't keep giving him more things to veto. Tell him he has to come up with some suggestions. If he can't, then the list of possibles is only populated with your choices.

@manicmij The Ott doesn't sound like Nat, pp meant that the name Ottile sounds like Natalie, but with Ott replacing the Nat part. So phonetically it's Ott-i-lee

I had similar with my husband for boys names.
Me: Isaac
Him: no, Jack
Me: I don't like Jack, Joseph
Him: Jack.

Eventually I said to him that I was never going to agree to Jack and that he needed to take it off the table. He replied that he would as long as I did the same for Isaac (my first choice). Having done that, I moved to the second name on my list

Me: Thomas
Him: Tank Engine
Me: will you shut up and stop being flippant for one minute. Listen to me, Thomas George (we already had George as a middle name after my FIL)
Him: stunned silence for a moment.

DS1 is Thomas George.

We had Edie picked out for a girl, but even as I went into labour couldn't agree on a middle name.

We came up with our DD's name independently from each other a week before she was born. I read the name in a baby name book, DH saw the name on a magazine cover. He came home quite excited saying he had found a name he loved. Couldn't believe it when it was the same one I found. Now I'm not saying fate will intervene like it did with us, but you'll find a name you both like. For now take the pressure off yourselves.

@manicmij it is literally Natalie but with an Ott sound at the beginning. I went to school with a lovely one BUT it gets spelled incorrectly a lot.

Personally, I think your list it to long in the first place.
The list looks really overwhelming, like when you're in a shop and can't decide which laundry detergent to buy because there's 30 different choices.

Whittle it down to your top 4, there will be one or two amongst the list you will like more than the others and there lies your compromise.

I genuinely don't think men like too many options. When going through the book, my husband was like nope nope nope - The second I wrote down my top 3 names, he was like 'yeah I really like that.' good luck! :)

Don't stress, op. We didn't name ours until she'd been born a couple of weeks. It really doesn't matter if you don't manage to find a name beforehand.

But he shouldn't be holding you both back and now you're worried your girl won't have a name. So he needs to work with you now to narrow the choices down. Pretty tricky to do if he's not making any. He sounds rather difficult.

Hi @Sunflowers211 not at all, he’s usually really good at compromise or giving in and letting me get my own way but naming a child is different. It needs to be a mutual agreement not me getting my own way xx
