I love the name Alice but I personally feel there's too many L sounds with Gabrielle, it doesn't trip off the tongue.
How about Gabrielle faye
Gabrielle violet

MissHenty · 21/09/2019 11:35

Oscar James and Gabriella Alice are perfect

Conniedescending · 21/09/2019 10:26

Thanks all

Has this helped at all @Conniedescending

Greeni · 18/09/2019 09:58

I like Edward nn Teddy and Alice but all are a bit common around here

Jenniferat86 · 18/09/2019 09:54

My favourites are Wilf and Violet! My niece is called Violet and she’s the cutest so maybe that sways me. I think it’s such a pretty name x

HamiltonBentley · 18/09/2019 09:37

Boys
Oscar - not my taste
Arthur - yes, like but think it will date
Joseph - timeless
Wilfred (wilf) - I know 2 under 2 and can't see the appeal personally
Edward - prefer Edmund or Edwin but yes, do really like. Love Ned as a nn

Girls
Alice - yes
Sophia - popular for a reason, lovely
Gabrielle/ Gabriella - very 90s
Juliette - prefer Juliet spelling. Would use for my DD if I didn't have a close friend named Juliet
Violet - pretty but think it will date
Charlotte - not my taste but completely inoffensive. Charlie is a lovely nn.

Malyshek · 18/09/2019 09:04

Joseph James - alliteration isn't a problem, but I'd expect some lame "Jesse James" jokes...

My fav amongst your boy's names is Arthur, that was almost my son's name (ended up being his middle name instead). I like Joseph second best (though not as great as Arthur by far).

For girls, I feel like I see a LOT of Alice/Sophie on this board. Seems super popular atm. Not keen on Juliette/Violet. Charlotte is ok but Gabrielle is the best by far.

Fivebeanchilli · 17/09/2019 11:20

Boys
Oscar - very popular, nice enough
Arthur - quite popular, I like it
Joseph - very very popular, nice but quite boring
Wilfred (wilf) - trendy at the moment, I like it
Edward - a good classic, popular but nice

Girls
Alice - lovely, classic, popular
Sophia - I find this one boring, so popular
Gabrielle/ Gabriella - I prefer Gabriella. I like it a lot.
Juliette - nice but I prefer Juliet.
Violet - lovely
Charlotte - classic, popular, lovely name though

FizzyGreenWater · 16/09/2019 16:55

Juliette is lovely - like this spelling actually, v graceful.

Joseph is fave of boys. But such a pity about Sebastian! Would he go for Ferdinand?

Bookworm4 · 15/09/2019 20:51

Nice names, better than the desperate ‘I need a quirky unusual name’ posts.
Joseph/Violet are lovely.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 15/09/2019 20:49

Love Wilfred James!!! 😍😍😍
Out of the girls names I love Alice and really like Gabrielle/a and juliette

whitesockss · 14/09/2019 15:48

I love Joseph James!

And I prefer Alice Sophie to Sophia personally. Although some would probably say that is boring! But both lovely classic names Smile

BarrenFieldofFucks · 13/09/2019 14:04

Wilfred James sounds like a classical poet. (That's a good thing)

Our youngest is James Stanley.

MyCatDrinksFlatWhites · 13/09/2019 13:26

Not boring at all, some are more popular than others. But I’m biased as you have my two favourites on there: Joseph and Gabriella!

Conniedescending · 12/09/2019 17:57

Thanks all - I think it's the collection of them together that I thought might be 'boring' - plus some of my other choices, particularly for boys are a no-no from husband - e.g Sebastian - love it but won't happen ☹️

Interestingly sone of the other suggestions are my existing children's names so we must have a certain 'taste'.

At the minute I'm thinking Joseph as the front runner for boys, but wanted mn James and not sure Joseph James works together?

Then Sophia Alice or Alice Sophia perhaps?

Boys
Oscar - ok
Arthur - too popular
Joseph - ok
Wilfred - quite like this
Edward - too boring

Girls
Alice - I don’t like the sound of it. Like Ellis is a posh accent.
Sophia - no
Gabrielle/ Gabriella - ok.
Juliette - cannot stand it as I know a really nasty one!
Violet - nice
Charlotte - my old cat

Sunshineys · 12/09/2019 17:43

I'd never think 'how tedious' when I'm introduced to a new baby or person and their name.

But if I meet an adult Steve or young Oscar, I am going to struggle to remember their name and will probably need to add their surname - I simply know so many already!

SumAndSubstance · 12/09/2019 17:34

The thing is, a list of names can look a bit boring altogether, but in actuality a child only gets one name. I don’t think there’s a name on your list that if a friend introduced their new born baby with it, I would think, Dear me, how tedious! They’re nice!

Pcosmama · 12/09/2019 16:59

What's boring about classical names? People try too hard to be different these days! Like all your boys names especially Oscar, Arthur and Wilfred. Wilfred will be the least commonly used I suspect?

Of your girls list I like Violet and Gabriella.

Others you might like?

Henry
Thomas
Zachary

Isobel
Ottillie
Eliza

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/09/2019 16:00

Oscar - lovely name though I do know quite a few little Oscar's

Arthur - like Oscar, lovely but I know loads (more than Oscar)

Joseph - gorgeous, classical name. Had it on my own list but had dds and not the biggest fan of Joe

Wilfred (wilf) - love Wolf but not so keen on Wilfred. Wouldn't use Wilf as a full name either though

Edward - nice but I dislike Eddie. The last 2 baby boys I know who have been born have both been Edward

Girls

Alice - pretty just not my style. Works nicely as a middle name though

Sophia - beautiful but very popular

Gabrielle/ Gabrielle - not a fan as I dislike Gabby

Juliette - pretty just not for me. Prefer the simplicity of Juliet

Violet - nice enough

Charlotte - gorgeous but Lotties are currently everywhere. I prefer Charles as a shortening

Can I suggest a few names?

Walt
Stanley
Edgar

Francesca

Sunshineys · 12/09/2019 14:44

Names that are 'well liked', often because they initially sound fresh and beautiful, become popular and fashionable as everyone joins in the trend.

Unfortunately, like with fashion, people tire of them and by becoming common (popular), such names start to sound s little dull or boring.

So yes, popular names are initially very well liked, but become boring exactly because of overuse.

CassianAndor · 12/09/2019 13:08

Only if you consider popular or well liked to equal dull or boring.

Sunshineys · 12/09/2019 13:05

Some names become dull/boring from overuse.

BertrandRussell · 12/09/2019 11:46

How can a name be “boring”?
