I am pg, not due for what feels like a million years (next Aprilish), but I really would like some thoughts on girls names - just to pass the time as I throw up for the second time today really. Boys names I have down, but I haven't found something I love for a girl yet.
My current list:
Lilias (Scottish form of Lilian)
Hebe
Clover (vetoed by dp, but I could work on him...)
Tess
Iris
Laurel

I do love a plant/nature name

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AudacityOfHope · 11/09/2019 17:09

😆 yeah that's not ideal!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 11/09/2019 17:08

Erica
Primrose
Tansy

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 17:04

Isn't Rowan like row a boat, rather than a row like an argument?

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 17:04

No worries, Audacity!

Although I like it, it is a bit fraught with problems. I recently visited friends who have a new baby Hebe and just couldn't help calling her Heebie-Jeebie Grin I don't think they minded, but maybe they were just being nice...

mistermagpie · 11/09/2019 17:03

I'm also looking at nature-y girls names for my baby due in December. My list is:

Robyn
Hazel
Iris
Flora
Rowan (but I have the same pronunciation issues that you do!)

I like Laurel from your list, my gut feeling is that my baby will be Hazel.

AudacityOfHope · 11/09/2019 16:59

Ooh it was, my son's grumpiness momentarily transferred to me! Apologies!

I wasn't sure how it was said, but I don't like the sound heebee. It feels quite hard to say, to me.

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 16:56

Audacity, that's a bit chippy Grin I was interested in a) why you dislike the pronunciation and b) how else it might be pronounced/what pronunciation you might like better.

AudacityOfHope · 11/09/2019 16:51

Sorrel is nice!

AudacityOfHope · 11/09/2019 16:51

Well @DarlingNikita the point of this forum is that people are asked for their opinions. And I'm sharing mine. That alright with you?

midsomermurderess · 11/09/2019 16:50

I love Hebe but it might be a bit, well, bold. So, Iris as an excellent alternative.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 11/09/2019 16:49

I love lilias, and think heather is nice, but hebe is my favourite- although it's also what our hamster is called 😁

DulciUke · 11/09/2019 16:39

Don't like Hebe at all, but love Tess.

Benjispruce · 11/09/2019 16:35

I like Lilias but prefer Lilia .

Benjispruce · 11/09/2019 16:27

No to Hebe . Phoebe sounds much the same.
Rose
Fenella
Elsa

CassandrasCastle · 11/09/2019 16:24

@19SoftBlocks Oh my gosh YES, Sorrel! It's a beautiful name.

CassandrasCastle · 11/09/2019 16:23

Sorry, missed that Daphne is Greek for Laurel - fascinating!

Chitarra · 11/09/2019 16:20

OP I absolutely love your list! My favourites are Clover and Tess, closely followed by Iris and Lilias. Not so keen on Laurel or Hebe.

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2019 16:20

Tess

SoftBlocks · 11/09/2019 16:19

Sorrel is a lovely plant name.

CassandrasCastle · 11/09/2019 16:18

I don't see Clover and Lilias as in the same 'type' of name at all. Anyway.
And yes - Hebe, Phoebe...

Daphne is actually pretty cool! I associate it with Daphne Broon from the Broons though

Hobbesmanc · 11/09/2019 16:15

I love Daphne - which is greek for Laurel and is also a name of a water nymph in Greek myth.

I also love the twenties feel of it.

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 16:00

Is Hebe pronounced Heebee?

Yes.

If so, definite no. Hmm What's so terrible? It's just like Phoebe.

AudacityOfHope · 11/09/2019 15:42

Is Hebe pronounced Heebee? If so, definite no.

It sounds like you're naming a fairy or a woodland sprite. Clover and Lilias are not good.

And Elfie? Come on.

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 15:28

Ottilie's pretty.

AverageMummy · 11/09/2019 14:13

I dislike all of them except Laurel which I think is lovely
