The only ones I don't really like are George and Peter.

I'd go for Jonathan as slightly more left field within the 'classic' options, plus you can call him Jonty when he's a baby which is lovely :)

myloveforfrazzles · 18/09/2019 08:31

Alexander-gorgeous
Benjamin-love it
Edward-love it
George-my favourite name ever
Jonathan-like it
Joseph-love it
Peter-like it
Thomas-love it
William- love it

Malyshek · 18/09/2019 08:30

I'm not usually fond of overly classic names, but these are good.

Alexander - Despite being very common I love it, sounds very badass.

Benjamin - Makes me think of Benjamin Hornigold :p (a pirate). Ben is a cool nickname.

Edward - Not so keen, reminds me of the awful Twilight series

George - I like it, mostly because I like the imagery of St-George ;)

Jonathan - Like it, but prefer Nathan. I don't like Jon as a nickname cause it sounds like the nauseatingly common John (apologies to anyone called John, but it's way, way too common for my taste)

Joseph - I like the spelling Josef better, but I know it would look foreign. Makes me think a bit of Stalin XD

Peter - Don't hate it, don't like it either. Bit boring.

Thomas - Same, bit boring.

William - Don't like it so much. I dislike Will and Bill as a nickname. Liam is okay though.

Fivebeanchilli · 17/09/2019 22:40

Jonathan is my favourite. I love the nn Jonty. It's also less popular than the rest of your list.
I still think Peter is a bit old fashioned. I do know one child Peter but it doesn't make me like the name.
All your other names are very nice, very safe and very popular

MollyHuaCha · 17/09/2019 22:12

Great names!

Alexander - love it
Benjamin - no
Edward - love it
George - v nice
Jonathan - lovely
Joseph - ok
Peter - ok
Thomas - lovely
William - my favourite from your list
Henry - love it

welliwasntexpectingthat · 17/09/2019 21:57

I have 3 boys with names on your list. Like all. Least fave Is George

ElfishBiatch · 17/09/2019 21:31

Our older child already has John as a middle name :-)

I really like Edward , Peter and Thomas . But as I unfailingly say - John is a brilliant name Grin

KronksSpinachPuffs · 17/09/2019 20:36

Alexander - love
Benjamin - love
Edward - really like, good nickname potential
George - like
Jonathan - really dislike
Joseph - really dislike
Peter - really dislike
Thomas - like
William - dislike

Orangeleavez · 12/09/2019 18:19

Not my taste at all but if I had to pick jospeh is the best one.

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/09/2019 16:04

Alexander - love Alexander but not a huge fan of Alex, it seems a bit meh. Zander is OK but maybe a bit faddy. I like Anders but imagine it would be a hard shortening to push as it's not a common one. I adore Sascha but I imagine that would be even harder to push.

Benjamin - love it. It was our boy name for dd1. Adore Benji as the shortening

Edward - not a fan of Eddie or Teddy but Ed and Ted are nice. I know quite a few baby Edward's

George - meh I find it dull and uninspiring

Jonathan - like it, a classic but not currently popular. Johnny is cute on a toddler

Joseph - I like it a lot but don't love Joe

Peter - not a fan
Thomas - love it but don't like Tom or Tommy

William--nice enough but I know alot. I like it shortened to Liam

Nonmerci · 12/09/2019 11:39

I have an Edward, wonderful name. We call him Edward, none of this Ted/Teddy crap.

finallychangedmyusername · 12/09/2019 10:49

Lovely list. Jonathan or Peter would be the most unexpected as neither are as popular as the others (and both are great names) I'm personally not a huge fan of George, although there's nothing wrong with it.

Frith2013 · 12/09/2019 09:58

Alexander - ok
Benjamin - will immediately be nicknamed Ben. Unexciting.
Edward - dull
George - ok
Jonathan - dull
Joseph - ok
Peter - dull to the point of cruelty.
Thomas - dull
William - dull

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 05:26

I love Henry but there are so many Harrys which would put me off a little. It’s still great though

Lou670 · 12/09/2019 01:54

Lovely names. I like them all. I think Benjamin is losing it's popularity now. It was popular when I was pregnant with my first 21 years ago. It was on my shortlist.

I love Joseph and Alexander from your list.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 12/09/2019 01:46

You cant really go wrong with Henry either.
I must say this is one of the few baby names threads that hasnt made me cringe.

ElfishBiatch · 11/09/2019 17:48

I meant to include Henry as well.

Alexander - love
Benjamin - love love love
Edward - nice, really like Ned
George - ok
Jonathan - dislike but only because it feels bland
Joseph - ok
Peter - Narnia, Peter Pan, Peter Rabbit - all the yes for Peter
Thomas - it’s ok
William - really like

What a fab list !

Mayannay · 11/09/2019 12:39

Peter and Jonathan stand out as refreshing underused classics!

Some of the others are a bit boring as so common. I also don't like the Willi part of William.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 11/09/2019 12:15

All nice enough.

Joseph is my favourite.
Edward my least favourite.

PrestonNotHeston · 11/09/2019 11:54

Those are all really good names! I agree that Peter's due a comeback, along with John?

Grufallosfriends · 11/09/2019 11:53

I really like Peter and Jonathan.

Some of the others are a little dull from overuse especially Ben(jamin), Alex(ander), George etc

I hate William, sorry.

fitzbilly · 11/09/2019 10:57

A bit boring and mainstream, but people tend to like those names.

My favourite is Peter.
