Chavia

title inspired by my horrendous step MILF. she begged to know what names I’m considering so gave in and got told that my taste was getting ‘chavvier by the day.’ Cheers!
A click-baity title is needed as I am actually due in 5 days, Christ. And people on mumsnet are very attracted to the word ‘chav’ or variants aren’t they.

So my original thread is here.

Here is my shortlist
Harper
Everly
Wren
Skye
Savannah
Harlow - yes aware of the place in Essex!

Helppp! Maybe I should just settle for Chavia, that would piss off MIL!

Rosasharn.... (Grapes of Wrath) That's along these lines isn't it? Unusual too...

MsRinky · 17/09/2019 14:07

You must surely have heard the possibly apocryphal story of Margot Asquith meeting the American film actress Jean Harlow and correcting Harlow's mispronunciation of her first name – "No, no; the 't' is silent, as in 'Harlow'."

WheelDecide · 17/09/2019 13:17

Rosa
Etta?

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 16/09/2019 23:25

Harlow is a lovely name, quite unusual, but it would suit someone at any age.

Drabarni · 16/09/2019 23:23

I don't like any of them, and couldn't imagine those names fitting in well where we live.
Lots of traditional names, wc area.

Tweetingmagpie · 16/09/2019 23:20

Milf Grin

I see what your mil is saying tbh. They’re all nice names ( I actually really like savannah) but if you want to use the word chavvy then yes the more chavvier among us where I live tend to use most of those names (Skye in particular)

That being said, go with what you like, it really doesnt matter. Choose a name that you love and use it, forget what everyone else thinks! And don’t tell anyone til the babies born, it’s harder for them to criticise then.

DramaFarmer · 16/09/2019 23:14

Chavia Everly-Dae

Or

Willow.

Definitely Willow.

FuckOffBoris · 16/09/2019 22:43

Wren is my favourite from your list.

Fivebeanchilli · 16/09/2019 22:39

Wren and Skye are very pretty.
I don't like the others I'm afraid.

MissHenty · 16/09/2019 19:45

Willa so pretty

Has this thread helped at all @elliex1

FizzyGreenWater · 16/09/2019 17:05

Willow is nice.

Everly is really horrible - it sounds like some 1950s brand of something, like extra long fags. Also like someone saying 'heavily' with a strong accent.

Crunchymum · 16/09/2019 15:00

As common as Mary?

Mary isn't common, it was 259th on the 2018 ONS list.

Use Willow, its the nicest of all the names (but a lot more common than MAry!)

mathanxiety · 16/09/2019 06:57

Willow or Skye.

Atlasta · 15/09/2019 17:11

Wren is lovely.
I also like Savannah but I do think it carries a 'common' vibe nowadays.
Everly is awful. Just no! What about Verity?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 15/09/2019 17:04

I really like them all but wouldn’t use Harlow although I know one and like the sound. I want to know MIL’s reaction to what you choose!

KronksSpinachPuffs · 15/09/2019 17:02

If you like Harlow you might also like Marlow? I quite like Marlow personally I think it can be spelt with an e on the end as well.

Other than that Wren and Savannah are quite nice!

Sunflower160 · 13/09/2019 20:33

Wren or Willow.

31RueCambon75001 · 13/09/2019 20:09

The Queen herself didnt choose it.

MeMeMeYou · 13/09/2019 20:09

Chavia is fine if pronounced charvia ;-)

Wren and savannah best if these. But wren makes me think of ren and stimpy

StillIRise87 · 13/09/2019 20:08

Wren and Skye are quite sweet and hippish. Savannah is quite American so less keen. Everly is really American so not keen at all. None of these four are awful though, in my opinion.

Pixilicious · 13/09/2019 20:02

Harper.

Antonin · 13/09/2019 20:00

How can Savannah be chavvy when HM the Queen has a granddaughter named that? Love it or hate it , it doesn’t meet the definition.
Harlow is a bit close to harlot for my liking.
Just go for what you like OP but don’t tell your MIL your true choice until after baby I’d born and named. In fact get some cards printed with the name and tell her it’s too late to change your mind

FawnDrench · 13/09/2019 14:08

Chavannah - wonderful name....

Cantrip · 13/09/2019 10:20

I guess people might have different ideas of what “chavvy” means, but your names don’t mesh with my definition of the word. I’d say your selection is very “of the moment”, which on the plus side means your child is unlikely to get any grief for those names as they’re increasing in popularity, and on the negative side (maybe) includes names that are likely to become dated quite quickly. You can’t please everyone with a baby name, go with what you love best.

Pinkarsedfly · 13/09/2019 06:52

Savannah Skye is lovely, but unfortunate initials.

Everly Skye is quite nice - reminds me of huge open skies - but in daily life she’ll just be Everly and that’s not so nice. The Skye lifts it.
