Got a feeling this might divide mumsnet! Grin My husband suggested it. I like it but it's unusual and wonder what people think of it?

I wanted Allegra for DD but DH vetoed unfortunately. I tried just Allie too, but jo. She's called Lydia if that helps at all.

BroomstickOfLove · 15/09/2019 17:10

I like it. I know a couple of adult Allegras, and they are nice and not horsey.

KronksSpinachPuffs · 15/09/2019 16:59

I personally dont like it but I quite like Ally as a nn.

LaPufalina · 14/09/2019 07:03

Haha I clicked on to say I loved it and it was on the list for both of mine but I'm horsey! DH vetoed for first initial reasons though Sad

Cookit · 14/09/2019 06:47

I know one. Didn’t like the name when she first introduced herself but it really grew on me and I’m now a fan.

Floatingaway · 13/09/2019 21:53

Megan2018 Grin

Megan2018 · 13/09/2019 16:41

It was on my list but DH vetoed.
I am horsey though Grin

MarathonMo · 13/09/2019 16:39

Vanessa Feltz's daughter and upmarket.

greathat · 13/09/2019 14:32

I'm sure it's a type of car...

TurquoiseDress · 13/09/2019 14:30

the first thing it makes me think of is music- but I'm actually thinking of Allegro

TurquoiseDress · 13/09/2019 14:29

I really like it!

Seems like a strong name, no farting about with how it's pronounced etc

Go for it

Leaveitout · 12/09/2019 22:31

Like it. At least its a bit different x

WLmum · 11/09/2019 15:57

I love legs as a nn! If she grows up and what's a bit more conventionality she can call herself Ally as a nn. Or of course stick to Allegra.

WhyWontYouSleep · 11/09/2019 15:19

Nope. It's the name of my hayfever medication! Just not a person's name to me. Don't know how commonly known the medication is though, so they may not have issues.

Antonin · 11/09/2019 15:10

I love Allegra— just trips off the tongue and is really pretty.
People are familiar with it without it being too popular.
Seeing as how both you and your husband like it I’d go for it. So very hard to find a name both parents like.
Restful your family is highly unlikely to be fully in support of any name you choose.
Just don’t tell them what you’ve chosen until wee Allegra is born and then present her as such with Meet Allegra!
Good luck

diddlediddle · 11/09/2019 07:03

Old Cornish name... might be Loveday?

Orangeleavez · 10/09/2019 19:47

WelshCountryBumpkin so intruiged!

I really am starting to want a less common name for my baby. My name was rather unknown back in the day and has grown and grown. Love my name BUT always felt it'd be nice to have a more unusual name.

My husband is really keen on Allegra. I don't want to regret playing it safe.
I can only imagine how my family will react Shock

Do tell.I'm curious.

WelshCountryBumpkin · 10/09/2019 10:57

@MikeUniformMike @Orangeleavez The downside of my name is that when you google it, I'm the first to appear haha! It's an old Cornish name, and SUCH a good icebreaker which was brilliant when I was a very shy child. It instantly gave me something I could talk about with people. I'm determined to give my baby an equally obscure name, just so they have their own icebreakers :-)

thebakerwithboobs · 09/09/2019 23:30

We have a little Allegra next door, called Ally by her sisters. I think it's lovely.

ArthuriaAugustaDarcy · 09/09/2019 23:30

I'm now wondering about Alegretto for a little one, Campion (I'm a musician, btw). I fear you might think my DC's names are even worse than Gertie Grin.

campion · 09/09/2019 23:25

I think you do actually mean allegro if you're talking musical terms.

I'm musing about your DDs names now though ...but I'm sure they're better than GertieWink

ArthuriaAugustaDarcy · 09/09/2019 23:10

Campion, that is heresy. But we will have to agree to disagree on Gertie.

Tiggy is fine. Teagan is not. Though, again, that's just my opinion. I am quite sure people would judge my choice of names for my children too. I don't have any strong feelings about Allegra (Leggy?), beyond the musical musings I mentioned upthread.

campion · 09/09/2019 23:06

Allegra. ..even.

AutocorrectHmm

campion · 09/09/2019 23:03

No,that's true, ArthuriaAugustaDarcy; Gertrude's worse.

I know a Teagan who is known as Tiggy, which has very upmarket connections.

Still,I don't wish to detail the thread and I like Allegro.
