Which name would you choose, Felix or Peter? What are your impressions of these names?

I know someone called Felix & he said he overall does really like his name but did get tired of cat comments through secondary school

thebakerwithboobs · 10/09/2019 06:58

We have a Felix and agree with pp-nobody talks cats, ever. We got far, far more stick for having a Gabriel.

Jellycat00 · 10/09/2019 04:37

Peter. It's a good solid name, and Pete is nice. Felix just seems wet to me!

Astronica · 10/09/2019 02:06

I don't mind Peter but love Felix. Felix seems fresh, lively and up to date to me while Peter, though nice enough, has a safe and conservative feel to me.

Equatoria · 10/09/2019 01:17

If you’re English, do you like the way they pronounce it without the ‘r’?

Yes, it's normal unless you have a rhotic accent.

Femodene · 10/09/2019 00:17

Unless you love the noise of ‘pee-uh’/‘peeder’/pee tah’, pick something else

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 09/09/2019 17:50

Hate Peter, love Felix!

Lavenderblues · 09/09/2019 17:18

Peter is such an underused classic!

Bbq1 · 09/09/2019 17:09

Like Peter. Really nice classic name that isn't common at all these days in little one's. Dh also has the same name! Sorry, but don't like Felix at all, sounds like the sort of name you'd give to a pet.

NcHere · 09/09/2019 16:35

I have a Felix.

Never had the cat/catfood comment and he is 11.

reeny19 · 09/09/2019 16:33

Prefer Felix, a lot of people never properly pronounce the ‘t’ in Peter which would put me off using it.

Femodene · 09/09/2019 15:45

Peeta 🤢

CakeRattleandRoll · 09/09/2019 14:39

Love both of those names, but would have to go for Felix, because DH is Peter!

Lavenderblues · 09/09/2019 14:09

I like Peter.

Regarding nicknames, Pete is much nicer than Feel Grin

MissHenty · 09/09/2019 13:40

What I would say is that Peter will absolutely get nicknamed Pete at school (take it from someone who has a Peter in the extended family)

If you like Pete go for it (unfortunately my Peter doesn’t like Pete because it’s like cows dung)

Antonin · 09/09/2019 13:31

Most of the Peters I have met or have known have been outgoing adventurous types. A nice name with a youthful ring to it that suits all ages. Must be due a come back.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 09/09/2019 09:18

I have a Felix and no one has ever mentioned the cat thing, ever. I don't think kids are really in touch with pet food brands!

Both are great names, easy to pronounce and spell, work in other European languages, no obvious rude connotations. But Felix has an X in it!

BarkandCheese · 09/09/2019 09:11

Peter. It was my grandfather’s name and I’d love to see it make a comeback. I also like Petra for a girl (not relevant to the op I know).

HeadlessGummyBears · 09/09/2019 09:05

Peter. I do like Felix but I always associate it with cats Blush

autumnleaves99 · 09/09/2019 09:00

Love that there is so much love for the name Peter, my one year old is called Peter, I do know of one other toddler called Peter but that's it. We found it really hard to settle on a boy's name, we wanted something fairly traditional but I seemed to know lots of other babies/toddlers with names that we liked. DH suggested Peter and I really love the name.

Equatoria · 09/09/2019 08:23

I like both but think Peter is more unusual these days.

JudgeMeNot · 09/09/2019 00:58

Never liked Felix. Had a wonderful rabbit called Peter. If the baby has big ears & a grey fluffy face, I'd go with Peter!

Sweetaholic · 09/09/2019 00:49

Neither.

Sophronia · 09/09/2019 00:41

Peter, definitely.

MikeUniformMike · 08/09/2019 21:39

I would choose Peter. Felix is ok but they are quite different.
