What are your thoughts on the name Liam? Not short for William, just Liam.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh and yes I also know a complete twat of a teenage Liam so that has probably clouded my judgement.

sheshootssheimplores · 08/09/2019 09:55

I don’t like it. To me it’s a ‘naughty boy’ name.

TheDragonFromDreams · 08/09/2019 09:54

My DH is called Liam. He is a teacher.

Not sure what that means...

Lavenderblues · 08/09/2019 09:54

I don't like it.

DriftingLeaves · 08/09/2019 09:51

Hate it - very 1980s.

devilishlygood · 08/09/2019 09:48

I guess the Gallagher and Shameless associations do have an impact for me, but I also know a 13yo called Liam, he’s an absolute asshole, a massive spoilt brat and a bully!! 😳
And his mother is horrific...the way she SCREECHES his name goes right through me, she’s just obscene, says his name just too many times.
It’s really tainted my view of an otherwise pretty bleurgh name.

Starlight456 · 08/09/2019 09:22

Liam reminds me of shameless

Gatepost1820 · 08/09/2019 09:15

Lovely name, I know 2 Liams and they're growing up to be fine young men.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 08/09/2019 09:00

I don't like it, there were loads around when Ds was born in 2001, every other kid seemed to be called Liam.

Crazyeyes3 · 08/09/2019 08:55

I think it’s horrible. Sorry

MissHenty · 07/09/2019 22:01

Really great name

A bit different but not obscure

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 07/09/2019 21:49

Hate it.
Sorry.

Newday1 · 07/09/2019 21:47

Not all teachers make assumptions.
Crap teachers who judge kids by their name should think about a different career.

My point is that thise teachers who really think there are 'naughty names' are biased, they already judge the kids and those kids who are naughty who have a name they've judge stick in their heads and confirms their prejudjce.
So when a 'good/nice' named kid is a little shit it doesn't resonate with that biased, crap teacher.

Bourbonbiccy · 07/09/2019 21:18

I think it's a strong name.
Maybe because the Liam we know is built like a house but as gentle as anything.

Rachelover40 · 07/09/2019 21:03

Nice! He won't be embarrassed by his name as he grows up, it's simple and lovely.

Pepperoniextracheese · 07/09/2019 21:02

Liam was on our shortlist for 9wk old DS. Classic name that isn't overly popular, we didn't want him to be one of 3 or 4 in his class at school.

MrsBungle · 07/09/2019 20:55

I think Liam is a lovely name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 07/09/2019 20:54

Lovely name

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 07/09/2019 20:53

I don’t like Liam. It’s a very “meh” name.

Gummybearsy · 07/09/2019 20:50

It appears that some teachers do make assumptions based on names:

swearychild · 07/09/2019 20:16

Yes!

SunshineAngel · 07/09/2019 20:15

The only two Liams I know have been naughty, which is funny seeing what other people have said. I do like the name, but do think it's a little bit old - popular maybe 15yrs ago. But it's a good, solid name, so if you like it, you should absolutely go for it.

NoSauce · 07/09/2019 20:12

Relative isn’t a snob. She’s just had many kids with the same name over the past 10 years that many of them have been disruptive and “naughty”.

Newday1 · 07/09/2019 20:03

NoSauce
I am a teacher so I should know. Sorry but your relative needs to stop being a snob.

The thing is kids can be naughty regardless of their name BUT snobbery means kids without 'classic' names get judged unfairly and are treated worse.
If a teacher genuinely believes there are naughty kids names then those poor kids are already being judged!

NoSauce · 07/09/2019 19:47

Having been a teacher for a long time there is no such thing as 'naughty names

That’s not what my teacher relative says. There are definitely children with certain names that are shall we say “spirited”.
