Elise or Alice?

We are leaning towards Elise which we both love but I wonder if it's too unusual and we would be better off going for a more classic name like Alice, which we also like very much.

We have one DD already who is Clara Louise.

Which would you go for, Alice or Elise?

I know 3 little Elise's, no Alice's 🤷
I'm sure that doesn't help you

violetteskies · 02/09/2019 22:20

Elise is much nicer! Trust me

queenqueenqueen · 02/09/2019 22:13

Elise is constantly going to get mixed up with Elsie

Scarlett555 · 02/09/2019 22:12

Alice

Chitarra · 02/09/2019 22:11

Alice

Pinnacular · 02/09/2019 22:07

Love both, and indeed have used both amongst my children's names.

Shadow1234 · 02/09/2019 21:54

Elise is lovely name, not keen on Alice

pumpkinpie01 · 02/09/2019 21:54

We have an Elise in the family , she has never met another one , we thought it was pretty and a little unusual but not too different that no one can pronounce or spell it.

queenqueenqueen · 02/09/2019 21:53

I really like Alice but personally wouldbt choose it as doesn't 'go' with my other kids names

Lobsterquadrille2 · 02/09/2019 21:47

Both are lovely. I prefer Alice, and it does go especially well with Clara.

tedladybird · 02/09/2019 21:47

I don't think that the mispelling thing worries me too much - when my older DD was born we received two cards congratulating us on our new daughter Carla Confused

Although maybe we should be more worried since Elsie is such a popular name now.

OP,
I agree with your DH: The Cure's track also a good namesake one!

(He could break into song every time anyone writes to her)

Alice is classier. I knew a couple of Elise's and probably put me off. But reminds me of the sports car of the same name.

NuffingChora · 02/09/2019 21:36

Elise. Alice is grim.

Howtotrainyourhamster · 02/09/2019 21:35

Alice.
There are 2 Elise’s at my kids’ small primary school, so I don’t think it’s that unusual. No Alice’s -though know a few. Alice is classier. Elise makes me think a bit of the Elesse (sp?) sports brand.

DramaAlpaca · 02/09/2019 21:34

Actually, I'd choose Alice on the basis that at least two posters on this thread have said Elsie rather than Elise. Elsie isn't in the same class of names at all.

DramaAlpaca · 02/09/2019 21:32

Both beautiful names, I couldn't choose between them

nomoredramarama · 02/09/2019 21:32

Elsie is nice. Probably just me being weird, but Elise sounds like a boys name. Like Ellis?

sawyersfishbiscuits · 02/09/2019 21:30

Elise is lovely! There are loads of Alices. Elise is classy and pretty. Alice is too, but just popular.

Retroraver93 · 02/09/2019 21:27

How about a variation on the two names you like - ALISE?
Giving you the "AL" instead of "EL" pronounciation at the start.

tedladybird · 02/09/2019 21:26

@campfirezen yes I LOVE that Für Elise could be her lullaby song Smile

(DH is more a fan of the song by The Cure!!)

CampfireZen · 02/09/2019 21:21

Elise is beautiful Smile
(and using 'Für Elise' as her special lullaby music would have extra significance!)

Uncommon name at the moment, perhaps, but definitely not "too unusual", no.

Know two: ages 60something and 3yrs.
Suits both perfectly.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 02/09/2019 21:12

ELSIE!!!

Meltedicicle · 02/09/2019 21:09

I love Elise, it’s beautiful. I do like Alice but the song put me off using it for my DDs.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/09/2019 21:08

Elise.
