I'm not keen, it sounds so feminine and soft.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 03/09/2019 07:47

I think it's just a bit of a mouthful to say - if you're always going to call him Eli then just name him Eli?

HeronLanyon · 03/09/2019 07:30

I see it as a strongly and consciously (meant by namer) religious name. However I think I may be a little out of touch re this take and think this is changing (a la Noah etc). I’m not sure I’m fond of it anyway but so what ?!
Congrats op.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 03/09/2019 07:24

Sorry just noticed that autocorrect got me!

Esaias** not Esau!!!

HeadintheiClouds · 03/09/2019 00:47

It’s become amazingly popular. I’d have to discount on those grounds alone, tbh. It’s almost as ubiquitous as Archie or Noah once were.

TheYeaSayer · 03/09/2019 00:42

Excellent name, I love it. It was on my list but then I had 3 consecutive girls.
I think it may have become more popular after the LOTR films with Elijah Wood as Frodo

RainbowJumpers · 02/09/2019 20:49

Love it.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 02/09/2019 20:37

Esau A's is a lesser used alternative. It derives from Isaiah I believe.

IsobelRae23 · 02/09/2019 17:09

I love it.

milliefiori · 02/09/2019 16:32

I love it. I'd have used it if I dared.

Mammyloveswine · 02/09/2019 16:30

Love it. I know an Elijah Jude which I think is beautiful! Siblings are Gabriel and Noah so very biblical Grin

joystir59 · 02/09/2019 16:29

Great name

Sparkandgold · 02/09/2019 16:24

That's really interesting to see it as a religious name which I totally understand but wouldn't associate it with being from a religious family.
Then again noah or Joshua wouldn't make me think religious

However I think religious when I hear then name Josiah

So really there isn't any logic to my thinking Grin

It’s on our list we have Jewish heritage so it fits ethnically for us but has a decent wider popularity.

DramaAlpaca · 02/09/2019 16:11

My take on it is the same as PetraRabbit in that I'd assume you were quite religious unless I knew otherwise. But then, I wouldn't assume that of Noah, probably since it's now so popular so what do I know? Grin

To be honest Elijah isn't my style of name at all, there's nothing wrong with it at all, it's just not for me.

Sparkandgold · 02/09/2019 16:06

I'm not fussed if it's popular.

PetraRabbit interesting take. Technically it's a Jewish name but that wouldn't worry me as someone who isn't practising.

Love it!

Astronica · 02/09/2019 14:37

I'm not a fan of it. Like Noah it's becoming very popular though right now.

KTD27 · 02/09/2019 11:52

I have one too! He’s 3 and is both Elijah and Eli. Still love it and was always our number one choice. Smile

Turtlesone · 02/09/2019 11:48

I have one and absolutely love it! He’s mostly called Eli (he’s almost 2) which I love too

PetraRabbit · 02/09/2019 11:41

Very, very biblical. I'd expect a brother to be called Issaac or Joshua. If I'm honest I find a name like Elijah strange if the family is completely atheist but it's a nice traditional choice if it fits your taste.

Morado · 02/09/2019 10:58

I love it! It was on our list for a boy until my friend named her son Elijah. I wouldn't use it now anyway as its growing in popularity and unfortunately that puts me off a name automatically 😂

sawyersfishbiscuits · 02/09/2019 10:54

It's a lovely name. It was on my list for DD2 had she been a he. But I went to a busy park one day while pregnant with her and heard Elijah and Eli called to three different kids (this was 10 years ago) so it did put me off slightly. I also know of two socially.

Having said that, it's really lovely.

Sparkandgold · 02/09/2019 10:40

Am so pleased with the feedback. MN can be brutal with baby names

mum2jakie · 02/09/2019 10:40

It's gaining in popularity. Was the 41st most popular boy's name last year.
